You'd have to go through the collections, but there were times when Watterson used a very different art style. There was one strip where a man was at home reading and smoking his pipe and his wife came home to say that she had a wonderful surprise, a baby, which turned out to be a rabbit, and he got upset. The art style changed in the last panel with Suzie protesting that Calvin woudln't play with her stuffed rabbit when he played with his stuffed tiger all the time, and you realized they were just playing house and the difference in the art style was Calvin's precocious imagination. Is that what you're looking for...? I don't know if this will help you find that particular strip, but that one was in the papers in 94 or 95.

Calvin and Susie were in the first or second grade (I think) when the strip was drawn and like Charlie Brown (Peanuts) I'm glad they never grew up.

We named our cat Hobbes in memory of the stripped tiger and his every faithful best friend.

Ever read the comic strip "Frazz"? Some people think Frazz is Calvin as an adult.

I LOVED that strip, broke my heart when he decided to quit writing it. I have a bunch of the books, they still crack me up!
