I am set to go to Cairo for work for a month and want to know if anyone has been there. Thoughts on safety and how they treat women would be appreciated.

Cairo is as you know an extremely populated and vast city. I have always felt very safe there whether I am walking alone day or night. Your only concern for safety is the traffic. LOL It is in a word madness. Its like all the peak hour have come at once and everyone has turned colourblind to the red, yellow and green. When I first came to Cairo 5 yrs ago I would always use the protection of a Cairian when crossing the rather wide streets.
At last I am getting brave enough to do it alone.
Even though it is so heavily populated there is a friendly feel to it and it will not take you long to get to know your local area and its people on a first name basis.
Like all Egyptian cites women are treated with respect so long as they show respect for themselves,in their manner of dress and behaviour.
Cairian women who work in the city are quite fashionably well dressed and a large number do not wear hajib..
It is one city in the world where I actually use the Metro and
I have found it an easy and clean way to travel around the city and its suburbs.
You will enjoy living and working there I am sure and you will find that Cairo has found a special place in your heart and want to return.

cairo is a safe city. women can go wherever they want at ease. you will find all the big and small chains of hotels, restaurants , fast food , shops, etc. women are treated with respect .they are dressed modestly so as not to give bad ideas. it is advisable to have good friends or make friends with someone/s who are aquainted with the city. they would guide you about places of interest to visit, how to get there , give you company if it's available . etc. this would save time and effort, perhaps money as well because you can share fares , sevices , etc. if your friends are members of a club, they can invite you so that you can see a place where most people are casual and enjoying themselves. i would see the geat pyramids in Giza, and the Sphinx which is close to them. next in importance3 would be the Step Pyramid in Sakara. it isnt too far from the great pyramids. so if you can get a lift, both could be visited on the same day. the Museum is another must . it's full of monumemts of great value , mummies of kings and queens, all sorts of interesting statues, jewelry , etc of historical value.
the traffic is heavy, but cairenes know how to deal with it. dont be scared. you can cross any street just by using a gesture that means HALT. drivers will halt !of course you wont drive. leave this task to its experts . streets are crowded, but people have eyes and common sense . so, dont panic. we just love to scare delicate visitors but there are strategies to find your way .
after your visit, tell us your impressions and which advice was useful to you. enjoy it , love it and it will love you.

the folk of Egypt have been suffering below an autocracy it relatively is been employing their usa into the floor, and now they're revolting against their unjust government. the U. S. assertion of Independence applies right here: '...whilst any government will become unfavorable to those ends, that's the the main suitable option of the folk to swap or abolish it." As such, i hit upon super irony interior the actuality that this dictator has been a U.S. best pal. i do no longer think of they'll gain making everlasting variations; Egypt's protection forces are plenty extra perfect arranged than, say, Tunisia grow to be. even with the incontrovertible fact that, if i'm incorrect and that they do be able to oust their chief, I purely wish that they do no longer finally end up appointing a good worse government in its place.
