I dont give excuses and I dont usually lie and say I'm sick when I'm not. I just say I cant come in today or that I dont feel good, which isnt a lie cuz Im pregnant and dont feel normal ever!!!

the best excuse i heard from a co worker was that his girlfriend broke up with him and he needed a personal day (he was 29 and just started the job three days before) a guy at my boyfriends work called in because he wanted to go out on his parents boat!! he didnt even lie!!

I always find food poisoning to be an effective and believable excuse. It's the perfect sickness for a day off because it tends to strike in the middle of the night so you don't have any symptoms the day before, it lasts for about a day, and it leaves no lasting symptoms. Yet, nobody wants to have a puking, feverish employee at work, so they must let you stay home if you say food poisoning. One more really good thing- you can use it a couple times a year because food can be spoiled at any season.

I told them that I was a Mormon and that is why my 7th grandmother this year passed away. Then when they expressed doubt about my reason, I began to scream about how the persecution of my people will never end!
I threatened them with a multi-million dollar lawsuit and picketing by my father and his 23 wives every day. That scared them so bad I get one day a month off now for special "death in the family" things. It rocks!

I lived in apartments at the time, and said that there was a pickup truck parked behind me and I couldn't get out. I told them I knocked on several doors, but I couldn't find the owner. I called back a few times to "update" them that it was still there and management wouldn't help me. It worked for me.

Last Thursday: 'I woke up a bit later & miss the ride, so I'll stay and work from home... So, call me if there's something important.'
:)))
But my jobs R ususally w/ flexible working hours - no matter where I do my work - 'it is OK... or I'll quit' :))))

A fake parental heart attack.
A fake friend's suicide attempt.
