Here's the answer.

(1-6i)-(-3-8i) --> Write the problem.
(1-6i)+(3+8i) --> Distribute -1 into -3-8i.
1+3-6i+8i --> Gather the constant terms together and the i terms together.
4+2i Add 1 and 3, also add -6i and 8i.

So the answer is 4+2i.

That is just a subtraction in which there are two separate terms, each needing to be subtracted from the corresponding other set.

so 1 - - 3 = 4
and -6i - -8i = 2i

That gives 4+2i for the answer.
