If chivalry is dead, than I'm a chivalry zombie, back from the dead. lol. Normally when you think of a chivalrous person, you think of a guy who treats women with respect and does the traditional things for them such as opening doors, pulling out their chair for them at a restauraunt, and most importantly, a guy who never hits a lady. I am a perfect example of this type of person. ^_^

Chivalry is not dead, just hiding.
You are looking for it in all the wrong places.
It's no longer called chivalry anyway, it's called 'random acts of kindness'.
You know, like being willing to help a stranger out at the gas station by driving him 45 miles away to the only other gas station in the park (because that is the nearest source within 100 miles) to pick up the tires he needs to fix his car so he can get home that night to be at work the next morning, and then drive all the way back and accept only gas money as a thank you.
Or being willing to give away all the baby clothes you come across, instead of selling them or donating to a closer thrift store in town, to a certain thrift store in a poor mountain town an hour's drive up the mountain so that the poor people with limited incomes can at least have nice clothes, shoes, and warm jackets for their babies.
Or saving all of the "Box Tops For Education" and Campbell's "Labels for Education" for a church school for which you have no children attending, nor are a member of that church, just because you noticed in the race for the "Cash for Class" fund raiser at the mall they were last on the list.
It's not chivalry. It's called being nice. Pass it on.

Gentleman like being Chivalrous, especially in front of ladies. :)
Its becoming fashionable not to be Ladylike anymore.I believe the Women's Lib have a problem with that.
When one talks of doing something without any personal gain, its more on the Good deed / Unselfish behaviour side. I believe there are still some guys left who still believe in it, despite all the negative publicity otherwise...and Thank God for that.

I like Enn's answer. I like the idea that chivalry is not dead, but has just morphed into something that is not dependent on the old paradigm that women have to be 'rescued', but that EVERYONE needs a little courtesy extended their way some time.

There are still many people around whose character was formed long before the advent of Feminism (which seemed to actively discourage chivalrous or even mannerly behaviour) so it lives with them. As for later generations, I have my doubts.

It is not dead just silenced by lack of damsels in distress and lack of women showing appreciation for a man's hard work. Women have become so scared of strange men that they have isolated themselves from any men who are just trying to help. It's hard work picking out a valentines gift and yet many women just expect it to be done like carrying out the trash.

Chivalry runs counter to the women's fem and women's independence movements. If it's true "equality" women want, then they can open their own doors, protect their own selves and all that. Don't go running to a guy just because he's stronger and such.
Do I believe all that I just wrote? Hell no. My wife will kill me if I don't help her and provide the muscle power around the home.
