I have actually heard that it is recommended not to get the shot...long-term effects are not known...

EDIT - I was told this by my gyno about 2 weeks ago...maybe bad side effects are showing up that you haven't heard of...a product should not be pushed until all/most of the effects are known AND if it is even effective, which was also another point...it can AID in prevention of certain types, but even then it is not promised it will prevent it...

I've never, ever heard that you shouldn't have sex during the shot series. I just got my first shot two days ago, they didn't mention anything about it, and it wasn't in the material. I think you may be misinformed. :)

Oh and a note about the "long-term effects". I've been hearing this from a lot of people. I'm not sure how people can be missing this point, but exactly HOW do you think long-term effects will be discovered if no one gets the shot? Part of medicine is taking the bad with the good---yes, there may be long term effects. But without anyone taking the shot, we'll never know, now will we? I'd rather risk an POSSIBLE side effect that MAY happen down the road than face cervical cancer or genital warts.

Every single advance ever made in medicine is due to people being a little brave. If you feel more comfortable allowing other people to take all the risks, that's fine, although a bit cowardly.

The shot is designed to prevent infection of certain strains of the HPV virus.
If you have unprotected sex during the shot process you MIGHT be exposed to one of the 4 virus strains you're trying to protect against. This in turn makes the time, money and technology to protect you a complete waste.

So.... just don't have sex till you're done your shot course. If you've waited all this time, you can wait a few more months...I PROMISE.

If I did not know the long term affects of Guardasil (which I have not seen any of those results yet) I would not get the shot.

You shouldn't have sex just in case you'd get the virus during your shot periods, like BH said.

Brutally Honest is right. They tell you not to have sex so that you don't get exposed to the virus until you are protected against it.

I've gotten all 3 shots in the series and was never told anything like that...I think you were misinformed also.

Edited after reading Brutally Honest's response: Never thought about it that way...good point for those that are not monogamous!
