one highly important factor that rarely gets reported in the news media is the depth to the quake epicenter. that depth has a strong effect on whether a tsunami can be generated. Also many major quakes on the pacific coast, such as the San Adreas Fault, are strike slip which has a movement that rarely starts a tsunami.

not all earthquakes generated in the ocean create tsunamis. Earthquakes have been occuring recently in the Pacific region. I think 2 of the many earthquakes this year has produced tsunamis.

Because the only way fr it to be a tsunami is for the earthquake to happen directly underwater. Plus earthquakes don't always end up as tsunami's.

there was no tsunami but there were strong waves and some small boats got pushed in land,the surf was bigggg i havent heard from the news about that yet, theres dead fish and crabs everywhere, it looks bad. Also my family reported seeing strange blue lights that flashed in the sky.

Maybe the earthquake didn't happen on the Ocean floor.
