Well, Umbridge didn't die. She had the real locket of Slytherin. Harry and Hermione had to take it from her. Hermione duplicated it and left her the fake one, Umbridge probably won't know the difference. Umbridge was in charge of interrogating Muggle-borns.

Nothing is mentioned after the court room scene, where Harry & Hermione remove the 'Locket' from her. Perhaps we may get some information in the 'Encyclopedia' to be published.

Harry steals her precious locket. She also has a good position at the ministry hunting out the Muggle born and taking their wands.

I would imagine that she lost her job at the ministry fairly quickly after Voldemort is defeated. I rather doubt that Kingsley would want a horrible bat like her in a position of power.

SPOILERS!!!!!

She upsets the centaurs in book 5 by calling them 'filthy half-breeds' and she gets carried away by them. At the end of book 5 we are told that Dumbledore strode into the forest and brought her back. Unfortunately she goes back to work at the ministry. In book 7 she is still up to her nasty tricks!

She forces muggle borns to go to trial for "stealing magic from another witch or wizard" when voldemort dies she is sent to azkaban for crimes against muggle borns
