This is not a unique problem but can be totally repaired if you care to fix the problem.
Go to NAPA, Car Quest, Auto Zone and pick up a bottle of CRC Brake Quiet. It's a high temperature silicone liquid anti-vibration harmonic compound.
Remove the disc brake pads and clean the non braking steel side of the pads with any brand brake clean. Apply a .060 - .090 layer of the orange / red brake quiet and let it dry for 20 minutes. Put the pads back inside the calipers and bolt them back on the caliper brackets. I guaranty your squeeling problem will be solved.

Good Luck.

its surface rust forming on the rotors is whats causing this to happen, but certain types of brake pads will do this more often, you might want to pull the front wheels and check the pads and the rotors, cheap brake pads will do this all the time, even if it doesn't rain for a while, and they,ll do it longer after a rain also, but id check them and make sure their ok,good luck with it.

If you know that your pads and rotor are decent to good then you have a case of somone at sometime installing very cheap pads on the vehicle.
BTW I used to own 01 Neon.

if the noise goes away after driving for awhile i would not be worried. it is just the metal inside the pads making noise. If the noise dosen't go away you need new pads. try "riding" the break for a bit to warm them up that should nake the sound noise stop sooner.
