It was a shout-out basically and helps get her promoted. It's like saying, "She's singing with me so she's not just a nobody..." etc etc etc. Also, people see "Jay-Z" as the featured artist and people tend to like it anyways.
I don't like his part in the song. Personally I say it ruins it. Rap artists usually do this because I'm guessing they're uncomfortable with their image and they're insecure. Don't get me wrong: I love rap. But sometimes they take it too far.
I won't listen to 50 Cent because in every song, it's the stupid same thing, "G-G-G-G-G-Unit!" What? They won't get any play if they don't represent themselves in every song?
It's just like Jay Z and it helps get her promoted is all.

I dont think he is broke by any means. its a marketing technique to double sales. if someone likes jay-z they will buy the song, if someone likes rihanna they will buy the song. Its new wave music. How many artists perform solo all the time. Maybe a handful, is hedging their bet against their shitty performances.

It's his label and it is sadly similar to how Puff Daddy would elevate himself through Biggie and other artists back in the day. Jay-Z is almost saying that the artist is validated because he's on the set.

Rihanna is not JZ's protege, nor does she have any affiliation with Rocafella, you guys are mistaking her for Tiara Marie, however, I agree, there was no point for him to be on the song... but there are rumors that he cheated on BeYonce with her.

probally because she was his protege - and a lot of producers / beat makers appear inthe videos -
jazzy phae - is in a lot of videos doing nothing but saying jazzy phae - or being pointed out sometimes not even speaking -
puffy is in a lot of videos - sometimes rapping sometimes just a speaking part ( like in biggies hot tub scene - puffy did nothin but say to a girl tell you friends they can get with my frineds and we can all be friends )
while his part wasnt his best work is was alright - i could have done with out it - but i seriously doubt hes broke and in need of money - i think it was more of putting stamp on his work -
