I believe its two twin mattresses and the problem is they are going to separate unless you bind them together some how maybe Velcro, that is your main problem The twins should be the thicker better quality mattresses. They sell a lot of foam overlays including memory foam, again the biggest problem will be the mattresses separating.

I think you'll find, through measuring, that you'll need TwinXL mattresses AND box springs...and sheets, too. And, of course, just to confuse things, the dimensions of a 'California King' are different from a regular king-sized bed. I never tried folding a king mattress as suggested by the mover guy, that would be great if it works without bending anything permanently. To keep the box springs together, as well as the 2 twinXL mattresses on my king bed, I use the 1" wide nylon straps (but not the turnbuckles, I just tie them tightly) that 'normal' people use for tying down cargo, like in a pickup truck. That way, you actually have 2 twin beds AND a king! Then you can go to "Bed Bath and Beyond" or a place like it and buy a mattress-topper with deep sides which will help diminish the effect of having that seam down the center between the 2 mattresses.

Many king combos have a king bottom with two twins on the top. If you can't get the king foundation mattress up the stairs, then go with four separage pieces. But you'll have to devise a way to keep their frames from rolling apart. Yes, there is a foam strip you can fit between the two top mattresses......but unless you can secure the bottom ones together, that foam will go to the floor.
Two full size mattresses makes one devil of a large bed. Your bedroom might not even hold them.

I've been using two twin beds pushed together for years. It equals the size of a king size and works just fine. They are connectors you can use, but I've found they're not really very good. As long as the bedframes don't roll, the beds stay in place, anyway.

we've folded 2 king mattresses to get it up a very narrow, and curved stairway. The folding has ruined the mattress, so that the is always a bend in the middle. Unless they are specially meant to fold, I wouldn't. Looking for a better way

All king beds have split box springs. You can get your Mattress upstairs. All king size mattresses are hinged in the sides you you can fold them in half. Place a rope down place the matt over the rope extending from the top to the bottom. With a person on each side, put your knee down in the center sides of the matt. Fold in half and use the rope to tie in place(folded). When you do get it upstairs, undo the rope, lay on the bed, reverse the fold to pop the hinges back.

i've seen king beds that have two box springs, each is half the size of the mattress. then the mattress is flexible to get it around corners.
