How do you deal with backstabbing, coniving coworkers?

They seem to be more concerned about keeping tabs on everyone else and quite frankly I'm tired of feeling as if my work is being scrutinized under a microscope by someone who is less than worthy

Women are extremely competitive with eachother and have little to no morals when it comes to taking down the competition. You'll find that most women have a hatred or extreme dislike for other women by default for this very reason. This is why it's hilarious when some study up and claims that women cooperate with each other better than men do. When's the last time a guy stopped being "BFFs" with his best bud becuase he called him fat? That would be never. Well, maybe in the gay community, but that's a whole other story.

It is for management to keep such people away as they do not add value to the corporation and it is one thing if the individual is performing poorly and someone tells that to the boss. It is another if the individual is doing well and a fellow employee/coworker spreads vicious lies like a below the belt punch.
If the company is filled with backstabbers not interested in the growth of the corporation, leave it when the opportunity arises.

If these people are in a position lateral to you don't worry about it. If you show it is getting to you, it will continue. Blow it off, laugh and don't sweat the small stuff. If you have a good relationship with your supervisor talk to them... a lot. About anything, you don't have to mention this, but it may come up in casual conversation. If you communicate with the supervisor a lot, your backstabbing co-workers will become a little more paranoid than they already are, It could be fun.

Hun, I know exactly what you mean. When I start in this job 18 months ago, the company P/A (aka pitbull) took an instant dislike to me... she has gone out of here way to try and make me leave, unfortunatly I have to share office with her, even though my job has nothing at all to do with her, she is there picking and poking, It drove me so down I was feeling sick at the thought of coming into the office.... I cant understand these people at all....!

Why does this only happen to women? Just do a good job and if you in a place with competent leadership they will know you are doing a good job. If you do not then you need to get a new job. Keep in mind that this is your view of what is going on.

They are out there everywhere, as sick as it is.
Never ever trust them or tell them anything personal. Who are they to keep tabs on you and think about it if they play mind games don't you think they figure out when they have gotten to you and all it does is egg them on?

Remember keep your enemies closer than you keep your friends. Out think their tactics.

In the long run ask yourself if they are part of your life when you clock out. An extra heart beat, sigh or thought is not worth it. Besides I bet they don't give you a second thought when they go home at night.

I've found that every job except for when I was self employed had backstabbing workers . . I just do my job and them do theirs . . I've told one woman several times if you have a problem with my work report it to my supervisor so she can repromand me properly . . my supervisor has never said anything to me about my productivity or my work . .only that my wacky ways offend some of my coworkers (some are offended when I happy dance in my cubical)

i do my job even better!
that way, i may get a promotion and they will forever be insecure individuals, with nothing worthy to do.
if they see how good i am with my job, they will die in envy! the hell will you care for such people? they are not even worth a second of your time!
remember the saying if the can is empty, it is noisy and if it silent, it is full. their brains are empty so they keep on doing the things only an uneducated individual will find time to.

I would say ignore and avoid them,... most of the time, they are the bosses pets so you can't break through the '@ss kissing screen' they have pulled over the bosses eyes with trying to say something about them! But don't sink to their level either because,... once you go that low,... it is really hard to climb back up to were you are at now!

Kill them with kindness. Do not deal with them unless it's pertaining to work. Even if you talk with others at work & these backstabbers want in on the discussion, excuse yourself from it, that way they can't say anything about you that doesn't pertain to work. They'll get the pic soon enough.
