Because abstinence only "education" does nothing to teach you how to not get pregnant or how to not catch a disease.

This lack of sexual education is also the biggest reason that AIDS is devastating Africa.

It takes more than "just don't do it" to stop disease and teen pregnancy. It takes education.

It's probably because white people in the north have the same rate of STDs and teen births as white people in the south. And black people in the north have the same rate as black people in the south. But there are more blacks in the south than in the north. That's not the result of abstinence only education.

They are not taught what to do in the event the "urge" to scratch their itch is harder that they thought it would be.
I went to an all girls school overseas and my school taught sex education. Another all girls school not too far from mine was run by nuns and had the abstinence only form of sex education. I can say based on what I observed, the crap does not work. That school had the one of the highest rates of teen pregnancies in the island.
So if what you say is true, it is just stupidity taught on a greater scale. I am all for teaching abstinence but they should also be taught what to do in the event they can't control those hormones.

It is 100% true that abstinence will not result in pregnancy and STD's

It is also 100% true that many teenagers will have sex anyway.

Therefore, what we are doing is ignoring them and only addressing the "good boys and girls" who claim not to be having sex.

All while knowing Newt Gengrich was boinking his sexratary and bring down a presidency for doing the same.

Good God, we're a country of such high unpracticed morals, enough to make one laugh out loud if it wasn't so sad of what it has produced.

Peace

Jim

You can thank the ridiculous 'abstinence only' provisions in HIV/AIDS prevention funding, here and abroad. The ones that discourage condom use and flat out lie about their effectiveness to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS and STDs. You don't like the cartoons? Well, neither do the non-medical personnel who can ban illustrations showing proper condom use as obscene.

Want to do something about it? Let's start by pressing our representatives to vote yes on an upcoming amendment that will allow a future president to waive the ridiculous 'abstinence only' provision.

You are mistaken...the south does not teach abstinence only...way back when I was in school they didn't teach abstinence only...Teen pregnancy is higher because we do not preach abortion...STD's are not heavier in the south...and perhaps you could supply a link?

1. For STD's (as a category) the South (as defined by the Mason-Dixon line) isn't.

2. For Teen births, because they don't kill the kids before they are born.

"Abstinence-only" is not effective and is based in thinly veiled Christian indoctrination. It has created a "taboo effect" that is often very much the opposite of its intentions.

Also, its policy that condoms are not to be discussed except that they are not always 100% effective is prooven dangerous.Students of such often dont use condoms altogether!

Why do you keep asking the SAME questions day after day, week after week?

Look, there is nothing wrong with promoting abstinence. Some people will STILL have sex regardless. Promote abstinence as well as safe sex practices too.

Happy now?
