Curiously enough, Bill Gates has demonstrated time and again that he is more of a business person then a tech guy. Look at how far that got him.

Starting and running a business is more about business then it is about tech. It is the person that can market, price, and distribute the products that will make a product successful.

Ever hear of an iPod? Portable hard drive based music players were around for years before Steve Jobs introduced us to the iPod. Suddenly, everyone wanted to have one. Why? He did one thing the other companies failed to do. He advertised to the mainstream consumer. Nothing else. The iPod is not technically superior to the competition, it is not cheaper by any stretch of the imagination, it is not smaller, better looking, or even more reliable. So why does everyone want one? Because Apple advertised it on TV, in People Magazine, and on billboards. Other companies only advertised their mp3 players in tech magazines.

And, that is where a business person can really take a hi-tech idea and make it successful. Find a product, make everyone want it.
