This exact question is asked every day. You're right about one thing. You have no idea. I've seen many people fail at many things they "knew" they could do even though they had done nothing remotely similar. While acting is hardly brain surgery it is harder than it looks. Don't assume. Have a bit of respect for the craft. Something that everyone gets backwards is the agent thing. You get an agent AFTER you are ready to act at the professional level. That means years of classes and acting for free in theater and student films. As for open calls, they are few and far between. Most of them are for extras and unpaid work. TV shows and movies have their pick of highly qualified people. They don't search among the general public for new stars. Hollywood is in the business of selling dreams. One of the dreams is that a person can come out of nowhere and become a star overnight. Doesn't happen in real life. Everyone who has a noteworthy acting career has worked hard for it. Before you point to someone who you think hasn't, they became famous at something else first and they worked with coaches. The others who seemingly came out of nowhere were at it for years before they became known. If you want to do this you'll have to start like everyone else did. In class. Realize going in that more than 99% of the people who ever take an acting class never book even ONE paying job. You'll learn what you need to know in acting school. The first thing you'll learn is you can't just do it. It's all a lot harder than it looks.

First, take acting classes. If you don't know where to find acting classes, call the University in the city where you live. Ask for the theater department.

Ask the person that answers the phone if he or she can recommend an acting teacher or acting school in the city where you live.

If you are a minor, make sure your mom and dad are at home and can ask questions to the person with whom you are talking to at the school.

Hi, I'm just here to warn you that newyorkgal71 thinks she is better than everybody and often answers questions by calling the asker "Hon" which makes her seem more superior to everybody.
