Dear Gcgipson,
Yes, "they" are. Their focus is 100% geared towards the children and the younger, the better.
Their latest technologies; cell phones, computers, computer games, video games etc...these are all to program young minds to grow up too fast, without consequences or a reality check.
Chips are in everything; clothes, shoes, games, all the way down to their pets, for control.
Schools in many areas are already year round.
Teachers and parents are not allowed to discipline.
Sex Ed. is wanting be taught even in elementary school.
Close, family life is not even considered "right or in" any more.
Religion, no matter whose, is on the way out.
Gangs, hate groups, radical racial groups, etc...are "in".
This list could go on and on, it would take me days to complete it. The reason businesses, government, the music industry, movies and electronics are all now geared towards our children is to prepare a new generation of adults. A new generation of no morals, no standards, no virtues, no decency, no respect, no courtesy, no love and no honor. They will be mindless followers, longing only for more, more, more! And they will be given more, as long as they comply.
I know this sounds rather harsh but, unfortunately, it is coming.

I think it´s a global problem, ant the root of the problem is to be found in children growing up too fast and becoming smart-alecks at 13.
I wouldn´t say "kid" centered but "commercialy centered". In a society where parents excuse themselves for not raising their kids properly by buying them things the big corporations are attacking that "market" and come up with a different game, activity or whatever for a child every day. Now there´s even a reality show in which a bunch of kids run their own place!!
Children have lost simplicity, which means they´ve lost their beauty.Whatt makes a child beautiful is his/her simplicity, the way he expresses his/her feelings without caring about what others think.- sincerely.Kids aren´t sincere anymore, they lie to their parents, they wanna be "cool", and they´ve become little consumer, game-demanding machines .

"KID" centered? I don't think enough. Kids are being forced to grow up way too fast. Being exposed to things that should just be left to adults. Kids when they get to that feeling that they're old enough (they're really not at all) then they stop respecting. I agree discipline is no longer existent. I was disciplined, so was my mother, and father. Discipline teaches you restraint and control you know the old saying right or wrong. Without discipline your giving them free reign. Kids are popping out kids-now 18 the average age for having kids. Not saying back in the day women didn't do that but they also worked a lot harder to keep their kids in line. With all the technologies for kids and new activities and opportunities, its the parents that are not taking advantage of that. In their heads they're thinking I had this kid all young and now Im stuck!! so they do their own thing pushing the kid off to the side so they can get drunk at the work place. (example) And don't get me started on the bratz dolls!! Please even barbie as blonde, she was she was a bit classy. Girls nowadays are just snots who really get away with everything. daddys little girl...hahahaa! Parents have been slacking thats my thought, we should be doing more for the kids-they're not getting a fighting chance.

It's a media blitz and believe me,media knows it's beans. In advanced societies ,kid have begun to have a say in almost every thing ie from TV sets to car models and other things included. They are also form the largest age group available for media exposure and influence at any given time. The idea that Kids are a central group in a society,it's acceptance by the society added with the influence they exercise in family decisions over selection of FMCGs{Fast moving consumer goods],white goods, consumer durables,Brand preferences and anything which can be bought or sold and fueled by being the most impressionable minds, makes them the ultimate choice of media for any purpose they choose.American society, considered to be most advanced ,has no option but to pick and carry the Torch,Others, like always, shall follow.

Actually I think that people in general are paying less attention to their children. I have two kids at home a 6 year old and a 12 year old and I have two stepsons. My stepsons raised themselves with very little direction from their mom. The little kids that come to our house to play, it's very obvious which ones are disciplined and which ones do whatever they want. So I guess yeah it is becoming too kid centered, because too many children out there are allowed to do whatever they want and have whatever they want...

Yes, some children are not being taught how to treat other people normally with respect. I've had bad experiences with children within the last five years, and children say nasty things, that their parents ignore. I've had a small problem with my voice during the last five years, and you don't know what children say and do to people with this type of problem. I have been embarrassed and pointed out in public, by children. Their parents don't do anything, to teach them not to say things like this. They make a big scene out of someone, and if their parents punish the child he/she will often throw a tantrum. Although the child deserves a punishment, the parents know that a punishment will get the child man, so they let the child get away with it.

Yes. I'm still technically a kid, and I hate where America has gone. They got rid of spanking in schools, and things went to hell. Now, they say that parents shouldn't spank kids because it "traumatizes" them. I was spanked, and I turned out just fine, and so did everyone else I know. I wish it was like it was in the 40's.

On a whole, I feel like saying yes. And i think it is partially due to the media targetting children, to the hectic lives of parents, and to children growing up too fast.
i am horrified by parents who shower their kids with material goods. They apparently have time to shop for these things, but they don't have time to sit down for a traditional family meal once or twice a day.
You got me started! :o)

Yes, and I think it has been since WWll. The generation that fought it had had to grow up in The Great Depression just before that, and they naturally wanted things better for their kids than it had been for them.
Things just got out of hand
