I'm from Ireland and I find American news too commercial and not taking journalism seriously.

Print news is similar, but TV news is very flashy with a lot of graphics, and the amount of commercial breaks is annoying.

Also, interviews are short and really only have sound bites with the reporter then quoting parts of the interview, which could lead to misinterpretation of taking things out of context, which both conservatives and liberals seem to do alot.

So, what do you think of American news?

I'm American and I agree that there are way to many commercials, but that's true all through our TV, not including
movie channels like HBO, Showtime, etc., and I also agree with you about the abbreviated time allowed for stories, especially stories of importance to the whole country, not what Brittany Spears did last night, but you have to cut somewhere to fit in all the commercials. Proper coverage of news is extremely important in a democracy, but we put much more emphasis on enhancing the bottom line. I for one have started turning off the TV and just putting on some music and reading or something because I'm getting really tired of the incessant commercials. I've also started to listen to web radio a lot. more

On the commercial networks, I agree. On the public television stations - not as much. The news is presented by humans, and humans make mistakes. Watch the PBS show "Selling the War" with Bill Myers Journal, and you will see that the American media "dropped the ball" and how we were duped into believing lies about Saddam Hussein and Iraq, which is costing us billions of dollars and people's lives.

I'm not all that nationalistic, but having lived in Ireland I found it to be the same in both places.

U.S. Headline news, CNN and Fox national I'd agree with you, but local news, like you find more of in Europe, seemed just the same. Maybe a little more flash in the U.S., but still basically the news.

It's easy to lead American's that don't watch the news here or there into saying that it's true, but I didn't find that to be true.

Right on brother....the US news media is very commercial...
(so many pills, and not enough water to swallow them all). Always a "pill" for any problem.....lose weight, have more sex, improve your memory, can't sleep?, feeling down?!!!! They act like we're all neurotic, and need a "magic-fix".

Why don't commercials just have their own designated "Hour of Programming", where they can attempt to brainwash folks into thinking they're totally insecure??

As for American News.......mostly propaganda. I suppose the newscasters do the best they can tho, with all the restrictions on them. They are "allowed" to "hint" at things, but not make sweeping statements. Although it is said there is no censorship, and we have "freedom of speech" , I'm not buying it.

I totally agree! The only TV new that I watch regularly is LINK TV - Television Without Borders and some PBS programs. If there's a fast-breaking news story, I'll tune to CNN for awhile. My favorite is Democracy Now!, and I record that one daily:

I agree with - it is lame. I have not watched ABC, CBS or NBC news for years. I would like to see the newsreaders (called "anchors" here) wear a pin that indicates who they voted for in the last presidential elections. I can usually tell by how they report the news, but lets have them labeled like a can of food, so we know what we are getting.

The establishment orchestrated "news" Fox, CNN et.al should be re-classified as fiction and put on the Disney channel. %99.9 of reported news is absolute garbage, dished up sensationalized, bullshite and an insult to the average persons intelligence.

I don't trust American TV news. I try to watch different perspectives, such as BBC, PBS, and yes, even Fox. It's important to get as much perspective to make informed decisions. American news is slanted. We see only one side of what's going on in the world.

The Broadcasting Networks are owned by giant corps and the people in suits call the shots as to the content/directional slant towards whatever serves their best interests

Main steam news is for the brainwashed masses, It is propped up by money from our corrupt government (propaganda) and by corporate greed.

All the while they feed us lies, take away our rights, our pensions.

News and political mafia is the reason America has lost her soul.
