Mine use to do the same thing and I never figured it out. It's either the bulb or it could be some sort of power surge. I use the new Fluorescent now and I haven't lost a bulb yet. They are supposed to last years.

From past experience, it you buy bulbs from places like the 'dollar stores', etc. they are probably seconds and do not last as long.
Of course there is always the theory that the manufacturers make them that way on purpose.
But I solve the problem by using those curly bulbs that last several years. They do cost more, but it saves me having to get on stepstools every couple of months to change them.

try using lower watt bulbs......75-100 watt bulbs will burn out faster and they use more electricity

ours do it on one side of the house more then the other side. but we live near a power plant

does your fuse box have surge protection.
high surges in power could be your problem, or it could be old wires in your building
