Just a few days ago was diagnosed with PCOS, i had my first ultrasound yesterday and the lady who took it was so annoying she didn't show me the screen, she just sent the scan pics off to the Dr. I also had blood tests done. I will be 30 in 6 months and i'm worried about not ever being able to have children, and not giving my husband the opportunity to be the best dad (he's wonderful with kids). All i was told is my uterus looks fine but i have lots of cysts. I have quite a lot of facial hair which i remove everyday and my skin is just always breaking out. I have started taking pregnacare as directed by my Dr and started a low GI diet cutting out all simple carbs. I'm feeling really emotional and frustrated, as i live in UK the NHS doesn't give you appointments for months at a time...my next appt is in November! I don't know how to deal with this and what the next step would be...please help?

I also have PCOS, and understand your concern. Honestly, I can say that nothing is good about having PCOS. I have found some things that work with the symptoms. Such as, I get acne very bad as well, especially along my jaw line. I use pro-activ, and it really works great for me! I struggled with this for years, and finally decided to try the "expensive stuff" and it works great for PCOS women.
My dr finally put me on clomid this month to help us conceive. I am not sure if it worked yet, but I have heard that it works great for women with PCOS. I would ask your dr about it. Hope that helps!!

I also have PCOS. I have alot of the same problems as you have stated that you have. I have facial hair that I shave on a daily basis as well as horriable stomach hair and butt too. and just in the past year I have started to have to" nair" my chest. yeah it is all no fun at all. I am very lucky in having a very loving and understanding husband who knows that these all alll symptoms of a desease that I cannot help or control. My doctor put me on metformin and also Clomid, for fertility . But he said that the metformin has helped some woman decrease some of the side effects of PCOS.
Having PCOS does not mean by any means that you will not be able to conceive a child. In fact my Dr. told me the complete opposite. As he stated , " it is so much easier to fix the fertility problems of PCOS than some other problem like problems with your tubes or uterus or even missing an ovary.' So look on the bright side of things and know that with hormones and other meds you con conceive a healthy and happy baby. And as for all the yucky side effects that come with PCOS ( unwanted hair, weight gain, acne...ect.) these all all treatable as well. you can do laser hair removal and theres also meds that greatly diminish hair growth. So please just stay positive . I highly suggest reading "A Patients Guide to PCOS" It explained alot to me.

Please feel free to email me anytime I know what you are going through, I live with it too. Cncinderella325@yahoo.com

One thing that'll help to stop all simple carbs is to know what food has them - white bread and other wheat products made with bleached and over processed flour. Read the box before you buy.
PCOS is related to diabetes somehow, so thats the reason to cut carbs.
Other bad carbs are high fructose corn syrup, sugar, some kinds of pasta like kraft macaroni, starchy small grain or instant white rice, and any kind of potatoes. Do eat complex carbs - the extra fiber helps balance your system. whole grain cereal, like rolled oats.
Stay away from the donuts, and get an hour of exercise every day - something moderately aerobic. Get the blood flowing in your veins! Walking is good, if you aren't wading through snowdrifts or chilly puddles.
Stay away from caffeine and nicotene. No smoking, no coffee!
Dealing with them takes bodily resources away from maintaining a healthy set of internal organs (including ovaries)and circulatory system.
If you can eat protein, make sure it is LEAN, as in fat free, and 97% lean meat. Fish oil can help with your chemical balance, so eat some fish, but not too much because of the pollutants they pick up out there in the ocean. White meat turkey and chicken are good.
Keep away from some cleaning chemicals, I hear the chlorine-y ones can mimic hormones and cause excess problems. Drink plenty of fluids. I can't manage 8 glasses of water a day, some people can - I try to get at least 5 good drinks of fluid every day water, juice, milk. Not soda pop though. Be careful of "designer" tea - they can have all kinds of wierd ingredients and chemicals that mimic hormones, or cause kidney and liver problems, which has been shown to affect ovaries as well.
Take vitamin/mineral complex formulated for women. Eat salads / veggies at every meal.
Pamper yourself. take a warm shower every day, exfoliate and cleanse your pores, be comfortable, luxuriate in being a girl, but don't use hormone creams on your skin, they might interfere with your pregnacare meds.
Get plenty of sleep - 8 or 9 hours every night, and don't try to make up for lost sleep by sleeping in on the weekend - it doesn't work that way. Being overtired and run down can mess up your metabolism, which might halt the dominance of ovarian cysts. This is just a guess, but interrupting the growth cycle of those might mean they never fully develop?
If you want information, the NHS and your doctor are not the only sources - check web sites and libraries.

Hi!

I also have PCOS and i am also trying to conceive. The doctor has put me on medicines and has mentioned that it is not a big issue. I agree it is frustrating but please do not give up hope. You are only 30 so age is on your side. Just relax and visit your doctor and tell him/her ur plans of wanting a family. They will treat you accordingly. All the best and dont lose heart.

Please read some books on PCOS, it will help you handle the situation better and understand better.

It is going to be a very long process. I too have PCOS and at first I was scared and nervous at the same time I guess I was scared of the unknown. But I began to read alot on the subject and began to inform myself.
Are you on any medication ??
Do you know what your levels are ?? (Blood test levels) Along with the mesurements of your follicals??
Make sure you get a notebook or calender and start writing everything done.
That sucks that your next appointment is in NOVEMBER I totally understand your frustration! I live in the US and I would have several appointments in one week (Just to keep testing my levels)................Don't worry things will work out for you soon!!!
Best of luck!!!!!!!!
