Yes it does matter but at this point it doesn't look like there is a serious contender that I would feel comfortable voting for at this time. If they were running against Rudie though it would be much easier for me to cross over and vote Democrat.

It does matter to me, I want Fred Thompson. If he doesn't get the nominee, it will really depend on who the candidate is as to whether I vote for the Republican or abstain. There isn't a democrat that comes close enough to my way of thinking or my values to even think about voting for them at this time. However, I have a couple deal breaker issues, so if a RINO gets the nom, I'll probably abstain in the general election.

If Al Gore were to enter the race, I might switch over to a Democrat ballot as he is more serious of a candidate than the rest of the Democrats and many of the Republicans. But unless he does, my vote is going to a Republican; maybe Mitt Romney, if he stops switching back and forth. If Bloomberg ran as an Independent, I would vote for him.

It matters very mush, I still don't see a candidate that I'm sold on. I will vote Republican either way. I believe the Dems to be out of touch with God, country and family.

Local elections are one thing. Depending on local conditions and strategies to improve, I would cast my vote for whomever had the best approach for those specific issues regardless of political party.
The general election is another matter.
The democratic party and it's rigid approach to international relations and appeasement and it's foolish insistence that the way to fix an economy that is not broken by raising taxes leaves me no choice, I have to go with the percentages and vote republican regardless of the candidate.

If Joe Biden was the Democratic candidate of choice, I could conceivably vote for him. He won't be, unfortunately.
I'll vote Republican because I am 100% against Socialism. :)

I will more than likely vote Republican since they are more aligned with my beliefs. Perhaps an independent. But I will never ever vote democrat as long as they support socialism. The socialist have too strong a strangle hold on that party, so in good conscious I cannot and will not ever vote democrat.

While I generally vote republican, the candidate with the best plan to secure the border gets my vote in the next presidential and congressional elections.

I definitely have my favorites, but I can't see myself voting for a Democrat this time, given the field of hopefuls in each party.
Maybe if Joe Lieberman ran against Chuck Hegel, I'd vote Democrat. But I don't see that happening.
Interesting question!

totally matter who get the nomination. but also matters on the other side... i vote for whom i believe is best fit to run this country, and if i agree with on most issues.. most of the time that is a republican.. but if mitt romney is up against obama, obama gets my vote. if anyone is up against hilary clinton, that other person gets my vote.
