There is a somewhat frequently cited "study" conducted by a website that claims October 5th is the most common birthday in the United States, and that May 22nd is the least common. I do not believe that this is credible. The people who came up with these dates said they used an "in depth database query" of some 12,500 or so people; I would assume that means they just got the info out of their database of registered users, which is not likely to be a representative sample of the population. In other words, October 5th probably won by chance, not because there are actually more people born on that day. One would need to see the entire dataset to know for sure, and I don't believe it's available.
I would say with a reasonable amount of certainty that February 29th is the least common birthday, for the simple reason that you only have a chance to be born on that day if it's a leap year.
