I can tell you that I have a few pet peeves on here:

(1) Illiteracy. If you can't communicate a question or answer, it drives me crazy. Sometimes it's just a matter of people being too lazy to run spell check (just type it in Word, spell check it and copy & paste it in Yahoo Answers)

(2) Using text abbreviations. Write it out! Writing words like "ne1" (anyone?) is ANNOYING.

(3) People that don't answer the question and just judge and attack people. For example, if someone is already using formula with their 8 month old baby, what's your point of attacking them and saying that "Breast is Best?" Seriously, that's like telling someone after they chopped all their hair off that they'd look better with long hair. It's hard to change it now....you're just being mean. Answer the question or leave them alone.

Anywho...what do you think?

I will have to second the "illiteracy" comment. At best, street slang sounds uneducated to the ear, but in written form, it is just stupid, and in particular, the word "da" for "the" is especially inane. Who decided that sounding uneducated is hip?

I own a company and listen in on applicant interviews nearly every day. I can only hear them; I cannot see them, so their appearance is not a deciding factor in the first phase of interviewing. The second I detect the nuance of street slang in their voice is the second they have failed the interview. If they are too uneducated or (almost worse) educated, but too lazy to speak properly or have the bad judgment to choose to speak improperly, they are not the quality people I want working for me. It is amazing to me that these people cannot understand why they have trouble finding jobs.

On a side note, I have also found, over and over again, that generally speaking, privately educated people employ much better grammar than those who had a public school education. I am almost convinced that public schools no longer teach punctuation, as evidenced by the run-on sentences ending in "ok" I see everywhere. One may read into that what one will, but in my experience, that is almost universally true.

Regardless, if being hip is more important than having a good, well-paying, prestigious job, then by all means, keep using the word "da."

I am also very annoyed at people who answer their own posted questions and then choose as "Best Answer" someone who agrees with them. What a waste of time and bandwidth.

I agree with all three of your points though I do tend to assume at least some of the illiterates have English as a second language and give them some slack.

The check spelling above the answer box works well too. So people have NO excuse for bad spelling.

I also hate the people who aren't even polite when demanding that we not only give them the answer to their homework question but show all work. I left grade school behind years ago.
There is one level 3 who answers questions with a "." and collects his two points.

Also I wish people would not fully work out homework problems just for the 10 points. These kids have to learn how to think beyond how to work the system if they are going to get anywhere.

Whew! end of rant
cheers and thanks for the question.

First off, Great Question gives me time to vent on all the questions that I feel is a total waste of time. However, I do sometimes still answer them for the point. :)

1. I have to agree with you on the spell check! Most people these days use Firefox, which has a built in spell checker...People need to learn to use it.

2. People that use a few letters trying to spell out a word. I usually run across these on answers from the younger crowd. Example: Wat (instead of what), Kno (instead of know), and so forth.

3. People asking for outfits to put together from different stores. Yes, its another easy point but silly to waste a question on something like this.

4. Random people with no pictures giving irrelevant answers to serious questions just for the point.

5. Rude, disrespectful, raciest, and inconsiderate people.

6. Those that ask a question about what people think of them. Either by a description or with a picture. Its sad to think people are needing so much attention they will ask others what we think they look like.

um....I agree with all three, though sometimes I do abbreviate words like you said in number 2. It's much more easier to read writing it out like you said, and it sounds more mature also.

But my number pet peeve on here is that number 3 you have. People can be so mean, especially when the person is asking a serious question. I also HATE it when people only put down, "thanks for the two points!". AWFUL!!! I've only done that once, kind of. The person was like, I'm this many points to level whatever. And I was like, "cool! And thanks! I'm now two points closer to this level". You know? But yes I agree completely.

good luck and have a star: ~*****~

I sorta have the same problem w the spelling..but I make mistakes too sometime.

As for abbreviations..I don't really care .. you're on the net what do you expect this is not english class , as long as you get your point across whatever.

Attacking ppl on Y!A is rude and some scummy people just have tons of fun with that. Although I wouldn't consider saying "breast is best" an attack. Something else like

You are an uptight A hole..yeah thats an attack.

Have a good day.

1. People who answer "working..." to place their answer first and then come back 5 minutes with the answer.

2. Questioners who pick the wrong or cutest answer on purpose and not the correct one that someone spent time researching.

3. People who answer IDK.

4. Copying the entire article from a web page or the other extreme just a link with no comment.

Wow! Where to begin?!?

• HORRIBLE answers always picked as "best" simply because they reiterate whatever the asker wants to hear.

• GREAT answers mocked simply because someone doesn't like them.

• Ridiculously simplistic questions asked which could much more easily be answered with a simple Yahoo or Wikipedia search, i.e. "How far is the Earth from the Sun?".

• Kids asking for direct answers to homework questions without even attempting to understand the question their asking.

• Getting insight into the minds of the younger generation and being nauseated from it.

• "Is my avatar cute?" And the like.

• Yes-- the text abbreviations.

I could go on.......

I'd have to go with #3 (although #1 & #2 annoy me too).

I've asked purely fabricated, hypothetical questions, and have had people come back and rip my head off! One in particular was something to the effect of, "If your spouse were in a persistant vegetative state, how long would you wait until you had sex with someone else?" Wow! I can't even begin to describe the onslaught! I never even gave any indication that I was actually going through this situation (my husband is conscious, and seemingly healthy), yet people were all over me! I really hate uptight and judgemental people.....

Those are all good. To your list add:

1. Students who are just too lazy to do there own homework.
2. People who haven't even tried to answer their questions using the internet.
3. People who post opinion questions because they are fishing for answers that reflect their own. No matter how well thought out or reasoned your response is, they’re not interested in it.
