One day I was complaining about ants coming onto my kitchen counter to my friend who was visiting. I told him I didn't want to spray poison in my kitchen and he suggested that I spray Windex window cleaner. I sprayed a little bit of it and the ants seemed to attracted to it and every one of them died. It really works. Give it a try.

Other than that I found that some of the poisons you buy at the grocery store or Home Depot work very well when you spray the entire perimeter of the house will rid you of ants. I would go outside the house and spray at the edge of the whole house. I used a 1 gallon jug that had a spray nozzle attached.

Good Luck!

Never heard of that but orange peels work. The acidity in the orange peels is something that a lot of little creepy crawlies don't like. Might wanna give that a try. I take it you're looking for an organic way of ridding yourself of ants. If this fails you, those ant bait traps work wonders. Just go out and buy like 30 of them and drop them everywhere. within a week or so, no more ants.

Yes!
The Journal of Entomolgy reported on a scientific study that concluded that when a line of cinnamon was drawn, most of the ants didn't want to cross it & actually went around the line to avoid it. Therefore...cinnamon "repelled" the ants.

Here's other ways to "repel ants" from an area: Bay leaves, chalk, black or red pepper, vinegar. dish soap & water.
" A cheap, non-toxic, and effective way to get rid of ants is to simply wipe counters, doors, and window openings with vinegar. I understand that this works because of the non-interaction between the formic acid in their bodies and the acetic acid in vinegar." http://www.thefrugallife.com/ants1.html

Orange rinds ground up... orange oil... "kills ants". Borax is a major substance in ant traps & "20 mule team borax" can be used for home-made traps by putting it in a small container with sugar, & punching holes in it. Borax can ruin your soil by adding too much Boran to it, so I wouldn't use it in the garden unless it was enclosed in a container.

Yes, it's a good idea to keep in mind that substances that repel ants would most likely work quicker at reducing ants if they can't get around the substances. But since they do discourage ants from coming in by making it more difficult for them ... why not put some cinnamon cloves (or a bay leaf) in your cupboard? I'd think the odor would build up in a closed space & become a "keep out" signal to ants. We need all the help we can get in keeping out ants, & this news about cinnamon is encouraging to all of us who don't want to use poisons.
Good luck! Hope this helps.

Not my category but I GET IT.

With all due resepect to you and others; ANYTHING that relates to a FOOD source and its residue (MOST ESPECIALLY). Keep in mine the difference "Attract"/"Repell"
IE: who is to say that some ingredient in Pepper, puts them off? AND more....who can say that THEY can't find away around a Pepper barrier?????????? Certainly not me in 63 years on the planet.

Ants are opportunists like most other insects...They will find STUFF you can't even see or know is left behind,,,TO EAT.

I won't discount home remedies,,,and probably not SOME chemicals; but CLEAN is way important,,,as well as Finding a source of entry.

A process you certainly can try is Our answers, WWW general searches, talking with pest control companies; anything that might cause Barriers, but in the end, all or none might work to your total satisfaction.

Not to be crude or offensive; but consider the Roach. They were here long before US, and will definitely outlast US.

ADD ON: no offense at all to ANGEL,,,BUT she did State MOVE AROUND THE BARRIER

Cinnamon - the new brain & health food?
http://www.brainready.com/blog/cinnamon_-_the_new_brain_he.html
But let's start there: did you know that a recent research study presented at the annual meeting of the Association for Chemoreception Services in Sarasota, FL, found that merely smelling cinnamon or chewing cinnamon-flavored gum actually enhanced multiple areas of brain processing and function; everything from memory to visual-motor speed to recognition to attention & focus? In fact, the results were so promising that multiple research studies underway are testing cinnamon for its potential effects on enhancing cognition in the elderly, people with "test anxiety", and possible benefits for people with cognitive diseases.
But cinnamon also has a rather mind-blowing number of other health and anti aging, anti-disease benefits as well that most people still don't know about: how about stopping disease-resistant yeast infections? Or regulating sugar levels in people with Type2 Diabetes? Or reducing the proliferation of leukemia and lymphoma cancer cells? Or the a mere 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon daily can lower your LDL (bad) cholesterol?
There's much more, but it's important to note:

The best thing that worked for me was whole cloves. Where ever you notice the ants coming in just put some around there and they will stay away. I had a huge problem with them coming in my patio sliding door and I put some down and in windowsills (as a precaution) and to my amazement they disappeared. It's inexpensive and non-toxic and it works....can't ask for much more.

Yes it does work. The ant traps are wonderful though. And the poison is not showing it is confined in the trap.
