I've got a job I do over the Internet and I'd like to travel a bit with it; how is it possible? Is it possible to work in hotels, just using the laptop and a wifi? Any hotels I've been in never had a working desk. I suppose I could always work in cafés with wifi, but I'd find that a little distracting.. Is there a better solution?

If you can, try and stay in a Courtyard by Marriott -- all of the rooms have a good sized desk, and the entire building (guest rooms, dining area, etc.) have wireless internet access (so, if you got tired of working in your room, you could sit by the pool or eat breakfast).

Feel free to contact me if you would like for me to check for hotels with desks in areas that you'll be traveling to.

I travel with my job all the time. Any of the nicer hotels will have a nice work desk w/wifi or wired Internet access. Some are free, some charge ~$10+/- a day from Internet access.

If you use a VPN to connect to your employer, some hotel firewalls block the IP ports used by IPsec. You may either need to get the hotel I/S group to open up the firewall or use an SSL VPN.

I tend to stay at nicer hotels though - Starwood hotels, Marriotts or Hiltons.
