Ok, say a person comes up to you and says, "who has the pen?" and you happen to know so you have to say, "A guy in that gruop of PEOPLE has it." you wouldn't use human in that case. the only time you have to use HUMAN is when you're talking about the human BODY or MIND. like a scientist studying a human. I hope this helps! tell me if it does!

About the same as when you refer to people as "people", with the exception of calling attention. Eg. "Hey humans, listen up!" That would sound like you are referring to cattle... Sounds very impersonal! Not that the word "people" is truly any different. It only has a more social background specific for that condition that keeps it warm, and more "human"!
Anything you do different, regardless of correctness, will make you seam weird to some...

Seams like we use humans when we are encompassing every one and people when we are just taking about a group of humans

I used to say "homo sapiens" instead of "people" but then a man thought I was calling him gay and he punched me so I stopped. Humans is safer, and if they are weird, use the word humanoid.

People are humans. These could be used interchangeably. No problem on that my friend. Just be used to it.

"Human" really is an adjective, even though we use it as a noun. We shorten it from "human beings". "People" sounds more personal.
