You have to have the right tools. You'll need the right size socket and a steering wheel puller. You might also need a stubby phillips screwdriver to get the horn pad off. First thing - disconnect your battery to keep the horn from going crazy. There is probably 2 phillips screws on the backside of the horn pad. They'll have to come off first. Pull the horn pad towards you and find the two wires that work the horn. They should be stuck in two holes on the steering column. Squeeze the ends of them and pull them free. Remove the nut that holds the wheel on. If you don;t have a steering wheel puller you can probably rent one or borrow one from one of the big car parts chains like Autozone, O'reilly, etc. Look at the center of the column. On each side there should be two small holes with threads in them. Find the two like bolts that come with the puller that fit these threads. Put these through the big flat piece that came with the puller and tighten them down so they are the same length. Hand tight is fine. The puller should have several caps that came with it. Find the one that fits over the end of the threaded center and place it there. Now take the big bolt that came with the puller and screw it through the big flat piece until it is snug against the cap. Using a wrench or socket turn the bolt clockwise until the wheel is loose. Make sure both of the smaller bolts are of equal length so the wheel comes off straight, otherwise you could damage the column. When you put the wheel back there are marks on the column and on the wheel. Make sure you line these up. If you don't your steering wheel will be off center. Whatever you do don't try to pry or force the wheel off. You could damage the bearings in the column.

Get a bigger socket and a steering wheel puller, I have five Mustangs from 65 to 68 and I believe it's a 7/8" nut

Go buy the right socket as this is the only bolt you need to take off. You also might want to get a wheel puller too.
