Ok, we had this problem when we moved into our new house... We hadn't moved our dog in yet so it wasn't from us..

Go to the wholesale store (Bj's, Sam's, Costco) whatever, and buy yourself large box of iodized salt/12 bl bag of baking soda... If you don't have a large freezer bag get some of those too.. Mix the salt/soda together and apply to your carpets and let that sit overnight... It's not harmful to pets or children... The baking soda smothers the live fleas and the salt punctures the eggs.. The mixture will also brighten/freshen carpets....

If you have a bag/canister vac.. Get a cheapie flea collar and leave in the bag/canister to kill any live fleas you vacuum up... Empty canister outside or throw away bag outside immeadiately...

Give your pet a bath.. If you don't have flea soap around that's ok just about any soap will work to kill the fleas just leave the soap on for as long as your pet can stand... Dishsoap works really well, just be careful of pets eyes/ears.. That will kill the live fleas.

Petsmart sells a cheaper brand of frontline.. It works I use it for my large breed dog and we have woods behind our house.. It's called ZODIAC and it's roughly $10 for a 4 month supply ! I've been using it for a couple yrs... No problems..

Vacuum everyday for about a month to pick-up any stray fleas/eggs.. If you have a total infestation get the Raid insect foggers and follow instructions. You may have to repeat process...Good luck

I've just gone through this recently. I have 3 cats 2 dogs & the fleas seemed to jump from one animal to the other.

Here's what I did:

1) Vacuum everything. Especially areas where the pets lay down or are known to hang out. If your pets are allowed on your furniture, be sure to get under the cushions. Once you vacuum take the full vacuum bag, double wrap in plastic bags & immediately get it out of the house. The fleas will hang out in the vacuum if you don't do this.

2) Wash any material that can go into the washing machine, (items your pets come in daily contact with) with laundry soap & borax. Fleas HATE borax.

3) Spray your place with Lysol - another deterant to those evil lil buggers.

4) Give all animals a flea bath. You can find shampoos at the pet store or walmarts. Expect to give them a bath at least once a week for 2 or 3 weeks in a row. Fleas reproduce so quickly that a couple baths are required to get the full cycle of eggs & bugs.

5) Finally - get some Frontline from your vet. Apply it religiously every month to prevent the flea invasion from ever happening again.

Good luck with it - it takes a little bit of time but so far it's worked for me.

Most hardware stores (or Wal-mart..etc) have flea bombs. They look like cans of Raid only it is one continuous spray. You will need to leave to house for several hours and take pets with you. You will have to make sure the pets are flea free; then place a flea collar in your sweeper bag and run the sweeper ALL through you home. You will have to be careful of the film or residue left by the flea bomb because it is toxic...you will have to re-wash dishes and wipe down furniture and things. But that should help. If they come back re-bomb. Also, depending on how big your home is you may need to set several off a one time.

Ive had to do a ton of stuff to get rid of my fleas in my house.... First of all you need to use a preventative on your pet so that the fleas cant feed. K-9 advantix or frontline is good.

You need to use one of the flea-carpet killers... you put the powder on and use a brush to push it into the carpet and then vaccuum it up. Put a flea collar in your vaccuum to kill the fleas once they are in there. Immediately bag your vaccuum outside and keep that outside so the fleas cant come out of the bag back into your house.

Use a flea killer spray (raid) to do all the edges of the walls especially by carpet. Vaccuum all your furniture and spray the furniture making sure you get inside all the cracks between the pillow cushions b/c they like to hide there. Wash everythink you can (curtains, dog beds, bath mats, etc) in hot water.

On top of that i also fogged my house (make sure you do the ENTIRE house, not just a few rooms)....

that helped for me... good luck

ps: i suggest getting raid fogger and flea killing spray instead of going to the petstore, they seem to be a lot cheaper if you buy them at walmart in the cleaning aisle instead of the pet aisle. And get the ones that are just for fleas not all types of bugs and kill the eggs too.

There are several products that will do the trick - but DON'T buy any of the products sold in grocery stores etc. They DO NOT WORK !
One product that works fabulously is called Knockout E.S.
It can be purchased from a Vet. & runs around $18-20 for a
16oz. aerosol can. You may also check out a site called
doyourownpestcontrol.com They have good stuff & may carry this product at a lower price. But don't go cheap - you'll get what you paid for!

use frontline on the pets......then remove them and use flea bombs found almost everywhere flea stuff is sold you may have to bomb once then again in 7 days regular flea powder used on carpet and vacume vacume and always clean the vacume as soon as you are finished vacuming fleas can live in the vacume. they also hatch eggs every seven days

You didn't say where you live (understandably...but important). I have 4 dogs , and frontline and other "topicals" just don't work on dogs this summer! My advice, just buy a virtual myriad of sprays and products and use them all. All that poison....something has to work
