Once the sperm and egg meet (conception), then the fertilized egg must travel back down the fallopian tube and implant in the utuerus--this process takes 6-12 days. After it implants it starts to produce hcg, which is the hormone detected by pregnancy tests. After 2-4 days after implantation the embryo is producing enough hcg for it to be excreeted in your urine and detectable by a home pregnancy test. So, at the very earliest, a home test could show positive at 8 days but often much later--about 14 is average.

Normally, you would have to wait untill your period is missed. The best way to find out is by getting a blood test with your Doctor. Its the ONLY test that is 100% accurate. If you think you are pregnant, get tested. Its better to know now that 3 months from now.

i think it depends on the pregnancy test. some detect it 5 days after a missed period. Some detect a few days after a missed period.

Its normally advisable to wait 2weeks (when your period is due) to take a test as it may be a false positive because of the minimal amount of hormone in your body.
Generally if you have a normal 28day (or so) cycle then you will be 4wks pregnant if you wait until the day your period is due to take a HPT.

Good luck
