I live 11 miles from work and it takes me almost an hour and a half to get there. I might kill myself one of these days.

If you only live 11 miles from Boston, surely there is a commuter rail station near you....My brother in law takes the commuter rail from Dedham and it takes him less than 20 mins to get downtown to work. He reads the paper and has his morning coffee. Would you consider taking the train? I know this does not answer your question on why the traffic sucks but maybe taking the train will allievate some of your rage.

I live in Saugus, and no matter what way I travel into Boston. It always takes me at least an hour or longer. The Big Dig, Painting the Tobin, having the tunnel ceiling fall. All this crap, causes the worst traffic jams.

It's the construction. That combined with regular bit city traffic, and the fact that so many people don't know where the hell they are going because of the confusing road ways. There are never any street signs. And the lights are almost always out of order. . . . . It's a pain, but hey. . .It's home! LOL

It is a big city, and people have to all go to the same place, most cities are like that. Especially during sports, and school year. In the summer it shouldn't be quite as bad. Take the Subway.

Traffic is bad because there are more cars trying to use the road than the transportation system was built to efficiently handle.
