Coz this is his 30th death anniversary. He died because of drug overdose. He took drugs to stay active for a longer time and cope up with the pressures of stardom; may be even due to insomnia. That's why I think stars take drugs.
He would have been 72 today had he lived i.e. he died at 42. He was married to Priscilla Presley and had his only child Lisa-Marie who later on married Michael Jackson.

Today is the 30th anniversary of his death. Had Elvis lived he would be 72 years old. He was married for about 5 years to Priscilla Beaulieu and they had one daughter Lisa Marie who is now 39. As for the drugs, I've read many times that he became into pills during his stint in the Army from 1958-1960. He has said that he'd take uppers to stay awake on night watch duty, which lead him to take sleeping pills to go to sleep. This was a routine that stayed with him through the rest of his life and ultimately contributed to his death in 1977.

It was the 30th anniversary of his death a few days ago, I hear. I knew he died in 1977, but I forgot the exact date. It is all too easy to become addicted to drugs, and people as rich as Elvis have no difficulty in acquiring loads of drugs. My family has oil wells, and my older brother took drugs. He went to 2 or 3 doctors for prescriptions. I saw him take a 2 weeks dose of Valium in a day. Mom helped him get his drugs. I tried to stop it, but I was unable. He died at age 37. What a waste. Elvis did indeed die upon his toilet I have heard. My older sister is a big fan. Elvis makes me think of my brother, because both were killed too young by drugs. Reality is popular with few men. There are many ways to escape it, and drugs is just one of them.

I used to listen to Elvis on radio and went to see his films when I was 17 he was the greatest , and in those days he was so different to all the other singers ans brought life and excitement. He was married to Priscilla Presley and they had a child.
Whats about drugs I thought all the young take drugs now or at least try them.
He was the KING of rock and roll , god rest his soul.

it's the 30th anniversary of his death.
i dont know why he took drugs, i would guess he had plenty of money, the pressures of performing and being a star. lots of them do it.
IIRC he was found dead in his bathroom, not sure if on toilet or floor or where.
he was not married at time of death. he was divorced. he had one child, a daughter named Lisa Marie.
Lisa marie is about 40. if elvis was still alive, he would be about 70.

Excuse his fans for honoring a truly great entertainer. Like most celebrities, drugs become part of their main diet. Whether he was on the floor by the toilet or on the toilet itself, not sure. Most people unless they commit suicide can't chose were they die. He took drugs for back pain, insomnia and other ailments. He was taking far too many. What he needed was a healthy diet, but??? He truly cared for his fans. Not like the so called celebrities of today. I can't see the so called popularity of Britney, Lindsey, Paris, etc. I don't see why everyone goes on and on about them. No talent-no class. Hope that answers why we go on about EP. He was a one in a million entertainer. He has stood the test of time.

He took drugs for the same reason that anybody does (famous or otherwise), for recreational purposes or to run away from the realities of life.
As for why everybody is going on about him, it's because it's the 30th anniversary of his death and because he was a very important man in terms of his contribution to popular music and culture. He was the key factor in making 'black' music (i.e. rock and roll and all of its many derivative forms) acceptable to middle class white Americans, and hence the rest of the world. Like his music or not, without his early influence, the music we listen to today would be very different.

In his younger days when starting out he was the best singer around for teens, like me, to admire. He will live on and so will the Beatles.
Too bad Elvis could not handle the stardom.

It's the thirty year anniversary of his death (on the toilet), most people can only see him as a great entertainer, I personally thought his music was good but I disagree with him being allowed to get away with all his junkie antics. He's not as squeaky clean as the promoters made him out to be.
