but when you're on the phone or in person, you're shy again?

I hear people are more open in Yahoo answers than in the real life! Any comments?

LOL, yes Rae. It is easier to NOT be shy here because I have TIME to think of whatr to say. In person, thser's an ongoing conversation going on and there really isn't all that much time to think before you have to speak. Therefore, I find it easier to be quiet and just listen. I am one of those folks that doesn't like to speak without thinking first, just so that I don't hurt someone's feelings by mistake. It's SO hard to correct an inadvertant and misspoken phrase after it's left one's mouth. If there's time to think before one speaks, there's less likelyhood of having to deal with misspoken words.

Interesting. I'm not shy in real life, thank goodness, bc a shy ESL teacher is going to have some serious trouble communicating with some very shy students!

Seriously though, I truly think that people are in general more open here than in real talking time, bc they are more or less anonymous, and the other person is not a "real" person who can cry in front of them and make them feel bad for saying something disrespectful. That's a big part of why people can get so very mean and nasty here when in real life they are probably much much nicer. Also, the threat of being punched in the nose for speaking your mind is essentially eliminated in this forum.

I wonder if the ability to let it all hang out here becomes something of an outlet for feelings for people who do bottle up their anger or passions or what have you... For me myself personally, I don't think there is that much difference bc I'm pretty communicative in general.

What do you think?

Sometimes, if I work at it. I'm a rather shy person, until I get to know people well, then I'm more outgoing. Even obnoxious occasionally. Sometimes the life of the party. Yet, I'm often content to sit in a cozy corner with one person, enjoying a good conversation. I suppose it all comes down to what mood I'm in and who I'm with. :)

i answer questions here that i wouldn't if i was asked in person. (ones like what's in your purse or how do you like to be greeted after being away from home)
but i'm still shy about initiating the contact process. (so i guess i don't totally stop)

Yep...that's 100% true in my case...
I guess it's because no one sees you for real and you can take your time and type whatever you feel like.
