I'm new to the Boston area and I would like to be able to use the T. However, I'm not used to it. Can you please tell me how the T works, how it stops and what I should do? Also, when you get to your destination, how do you know that you got there?

I never used the T before...

Thanks

It can be very confusing, but after you figure it out, you should have no problem. First of all, you have to figure out where you are, and what line is the closest. If you were at like South Station, and wanted to go to Harvard, for example, you would take the red line. Most of the time, it's looking at the subway map (mbta.com) and just assessing where you are and where you want to go, and what's the fastest route. To use it, you need either 2.00 for a CharliePass which you can only use once, or I'd suggest buying a CharlieCard (you can find these at North and South Stations, and online at mbta.com) because it can be used again and again, and it only charges you 1.70 a ride, rather than 2.00. If you think you are going to be on the T alot for let's say, work or you are going to school, look into a monthly subway pass. They are rather inexpensive, and can really save you on the cost of a ride. Plus there's no limit on how much you can use them a day. Check mbta.com which is the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority who run the subway and commuter rail trains. So after you figure out which card/pass you want to use, you go to the subway station, and buy a CharliePass one time use pass, or put money on your CharlieCard. If you have a monthly pass, you don't have to do either of these things. Then, you go to the turnstyle and put the card through, and you're in. Then, you have to decide which way you are going, either inbound or outbound. Look at the signs, usually they say Inbound to wherever (depends on the line) and outbound to wherever (depends on the line again)...so figure out which one your stop is, and then wait for the train. Then, get on the train, and it will tell you what the next stop is, usually the person driving it will say Next stop,........ Then, you can look out the windows and see what the platform says, and then you know you are there.....I hope this helps!!

Well, you'll need to know what stop you're going to. At the T website,y ou can find a map of all the lines. http://www.mbta.com and then just go to that station. You can either buy a Charlie Card or pay a higher fare of $2. So you're better off just loading up a card with some money for fare. Then you just swipe your card, get on, and wait until you're there. If you need to chage trains, you don't usually need to pay the fare again. There will be huge signs for what stop you are at, plus sometimes it's announced. Also, inside the trains they will show the route, so you can follow along where you have been and where you are going. It's easy.

ShouldBeWorking is completely correct (give her best answer), the T train is really easy to use once you get the hang of it! My mom and I were only there once and now on Paltalk chat everyone thinks we're Bostonians! In just 2 or 3 days my mom and I were T-TRAIN pros, only a few times did we mess up mostly because we took the train going in the wrong direction.

There is a map inside all of the trains of the different stops. Just know where you want to stop and get off there. I enjoyed it....it was fun listening to the drivers accents....you'll see what I mean.

every T stop has huge signs of the name of the station. You cannot get lost at all. all you need is the map of all the red, orange, blue, green lines and you will be ok. go to the MBTA website for more information.

after a while, it will be so easy to use.

In Boston, I usually use the 'T' between the 'S' and the second 'O'
