I work on commercial air conditioners for a living. I mostly answer questions on here about air conditioners. I have noticed that so many other people answer these questions too. These are people who know nothing about an air conditioning system and often answer the question by telling the person to call a qualified technician. Obviously the people are on here asking a question in hopes to avoid the hassle and $$$ involved with calling a service company. It's either that or some totally off the wall bull_**** answer that makes no sense at all. Why do people waste all of our time answering questions when they have no clue what they are talking about??

"Call a technician" is not a good answer. That totally defeats the purpose of asking a question on here.

I am ho0nestly just trying to help people with their AC problems. I don't care about Yahoo Answers points. I think that I have helped a lot of people with simple home owner typ solutions to their air conditioner problems. This kind of stuff can be an emergency as we have already had at leat 11 heat related deaths in the St. Louis metro area this year.

I agree with you a 100 % there are other catetgories to play dear abby with. People are asking to learn how to do repairs as correctly as possible. I rate a lot of answers that are what I would have typed otherwise. Giving the questioner an idea how many people agree with the answer that is best advice. I feel good when I can help someone. As a handyman for over 20 years I have knowledge from experince. I can't tell you how many times people have come to me after starting a project and need help. Most of the time they just need someone to explain things and their fine. One other thing that would be helpful is for the questioner to give enough details to better help them, as vague answers can lead to more headache than good.

One word... EGO !
You are 100% correct. Telling someone to call a qualified technician is NOT an answer. If you don't know the answer, keep you mouth shut. Seeing your "answer" in print on the net might give you some kind of rush - but you're wasteing people's time & not providing them with the info they want.

I agree with you. I am a professional electrician and have tried to help people out with electrical questions. But I am seriously thinking about quiting. There are to many phony people on here claiming to be master electricians and having 40 years experience, that don't know jack about electricity or the electric code. They give answers so wrong that any real electrician can spot them right away. But people are taking their advice and sooner or later someone will burn their house down, or kill themselves or their kids, taking all this BS advice. I don't think I want to be part of it anymore.

Looks like we all agree. I answer questions in many catagories and see the same thing in all of them. If I see a good answer I give a good rating and don't need to answer myself unless I think I can clarify or add to an answer.
Thanks for posting this question, this is sort of a hobby for me but it does get frustrating to see someone give an answer that can cause damage or injury. I have seen some answers that I felt were actually intended to cause damage.
