I want to know that as well.
I dont really like pop, so whenever i want to look at rock questions, i have to trail through all the pop ones too.
I think there should be a seperate category for rock/metal/alternative and then another one for pop.

That category will never change. It originated in the 1950's by The Big Bopper. When rock first came out it was called Bubble gum Rock as it appealed to teenagers back in the day. Then as more and more artists used electric guitars and bass and drums it turned into pop-rock and later on to rock n' roll. By the time the 1970's came a long you had hippy rock or just rock as it is called now. The 1980's saw a fusion of jazz, pop, psychedelic, new wave and hard rock (guitar rock).

I don't know, this is the category that gets the most questions why rock and pop aren't separated. They should be and Rock and Fall Out By aren't the same what so ever!

It doesn't. It isn't. My version of what I consider "rock" is usually NEVER considered as "pop". People categorize things, and frequently they do it differently than what you think it should be. My pet peeve is what "Hollywood" thinks is rock - it usually isn't. Rock is in the mind of the beholder. I like blues-rock - is it blues or is it rock? Its both. There can be "pop-rock" too, but its usually more pop than rock. And have you noticed that most songs that include the words "rock'n'roll" are hardly ever real rock songs?

cause pop obv stands for popular.
at one point in time......most of these kids can't remember, but Rock was the popular music.....and boys and girls, I'm not speaking of when Nickleback came out.....ok......I'm talking about when the GODS of Rock roamed the earth......
AC/DC. The Stones, The Who, Sabbath,
Now since crap like boy "bands", and hip hop, and the spoiled little blonde singers, have all came out in the past 3 decades or so.....the "industry" has'nt realized that rock has been put on the back burner for less talented music, and have yet to take it from the sorry title that pop has become.

Rock, although it has very different fan base, is still technically another type of pop (all popular music is considered pop). It should be changed just because of difference in fans.

I've wondered the same thing. I guess because most of the 'rock' bands today might as well be pop!

Yeah, I kind of wondered the same thing. I like questions about rock. To see a question in the same category about Justin Timberlake makes me frown. =(
