Is there a point when the police have to file the case under unsolved. More importantly, is there a point when the McCanns go back to work. For all the people who will knock me for having no sympathy please read this first. I would never have left my children like that. I believe that is is neglect and I think that they should be punished for it instead of blaming the Portuguese police for most things. I find it obscene that they are now raising their family in the sun with other peoples money, freely admitting that they will continue to do so for as long as Maddie is missing. They have a responsibility to provide for their twins, having already let one of their kids down. It is their own attitude which is leading to conspiracy theories linking them with some involvement in this, and the sooner they go back to work and some sort of normality, the better. anyone agree.

I'm sorry Goldfish, that won't be the case. This will end with no conclusion or happy ending. It will be like the Ben Needham case. Too much time has now elapsed for that to happen in my estimation. Portugal, like Spain has many areas where you could bury a body and it would never be found. Most people on here have no comprehension of the terrain out here. Once the sun and heat builds the uppercrust on the soil is like a rock face.
My feeling is the whole thing will be scale down when the police have exhausted their enquiries. The news media will move on to the next story and you lot will do the same.
I'm no different to anyone else, I'm only speculating, but I hope my speculation is acceptable.

I agree with you. They should give back the money, though I do think people were stupid for giving it to them in the first place. They are using this money to make things more comfy for themselves, while their daughter has been either sold somewhere on the other side of the world, or is dead. They say they will stay until she is found, but reality has to kick in sometime. The liklihood is she will never be found. She probably isn't even in Europe anymore.

And as for those poor twins. Gerry said they sent them to the creche so they had some structure and normallity. If that's what they want, perhaps their parents should go home, start going to work, and get on with their lives. I doubt they will ever find the poor child (and i hope the parents feel guilty for ever), and anyone with the slightest grip on reality, and common sense must agree.

saraleon...should the 2 moms in pittsburgh not be in jail for leaving their kids alone? Their 5 kids died because of their stupidity.

As for the askers question...I cannot begin to understand something like this because it has not happened to me but...I have a very close friend that lost her daughter to a tragic car accident 9 mos ago. She has 2 other children and although still grieving and will so the rest of her life she realized she had to go on for her other children. Her husband on the other hand refuses to go on. He is miserable...will not celebrate holidays and says he never will. Will not go to family functions as it is not right without his other daughter there. It will affect his remaining children. I understand this is a bit different as they supposedly don't know what happened but still this is the polices job and they have enough money in their fund that they could keep a PI on this case for many many years. There is nothing more the McCanns can do to bring their daughter back and it should left up to the authorities. They have other children to take into consideration. They did not take their childrens best interest into consideration the the night of May 3 and I think it is fine time they start doing it now. Call me cold and unsympathetic but the other 2 children not have to suffer and grow up in a life of media attention constantly, going to daycare more then their with mum and dad etc etc. I think I know for sure that I would be far more protective of my remaining children if I were in this situation and it seems the McCann parents were quite comfortable leaving them in a daycare with strangers....a daycare they were not comfortable leaving them in the night Madeleine dissappeared.

You raise a good point. However, there is so much hypocrisy here (not you personally) that it is unbelievable. If the McCanns do come back and get back to work, most of the people who answered this now will be screaming blue murder about how the parents obviously don't care about their daughter, spitting fury about how the twins are in care while they are working, etc etc etc.

I know you're all going to moan at me for that. Even if you personally do not feel that way, you know that there are a load of people here who do. Hypocrites is what they are.

I agree with you. And for those who say that losing a child is punishment enough, what would have happened if a couple had done this in th UK? What if they left 3 kids alone and went over the pub, the house caught fire and all the kids died, is losing kids punishment enough or should the parents also be prosecuted for putting their kids lives in danger in the first place?

As much as I pray that poor child is found, I am tired of all the speculation and would like to see this case done and dusted, for Madeleine's sake and shut everyone up ANTI or PRO.

The McCann's have a life back in the UK and two other kids that desperately need parents to love them and to give as much of a normal life as possible.

I think for as long as this case is unsolved the file will be left open. If the Police despite their best efforts still draw a blank at some time in the future then less and less Police time will be used on it untill further evidence comes to light. But rest assured, in the event that Maddie isnt found, someone will be beavering away trying to solve this case for years to come

As for the McCanns... i'm not concerned that they are staying in Portugal and i'm sure that many of the people who have donated money are more concerned with finding Maddie than worrrying if a fraction of their donations is being spent on accomodation.

and as for the twins? how is returning to england going to help them at the moment? their lives wil;l be permanently affected by the loss of their sister and in years to come i dont think the fact that they stayed in Portugal for a few months will even enter their heads as point of concern. In the grander scheme of things Maddie is missing...where the twins sleep at night isnt going to ease that loss..

sure I appeared at this programme on television approximately this cop. i presumed perhaps that the McCann's have been given wind of this and that's the reason they got here lower back to England. i do no longer blame them for coming lower back in the event that they knew relating to the prevouse case. i think of that Mum continues to be in detention center is'nt she.

You need only look to Ben Needham's mother who has conducted herself with absolute dignity for the 16 years he has been missing (In Greece)
She is not still living in Greece, neither did she have anywhere near as much support from media/ public and she did not neglect her son . . .

I think at some point a line will need to be drawn, the sad fact it a lot of crimes do go unsolved, we May never know what happened in this case . . . .

I agree with everything you've said but it's impossible to draw a line under the disappearance of a 4 year old - this little girl is not to blame. I really hope she is found alive and well - though it's not looking good is it.I have a 2 year old girl and 4 year old boy and I don't think I could ever move on if anything happened to any one of them.

Hmmm, agree with some things, but whilst we are on the subject, They apparently said they could see the door to the apartment fro mwhere they were. Well I have children and know, I f I leave them anywhere, I make sure I constantly glance at them every few minutes, even if its the local park. Im sure if they could see the apartment, they would notice someone going in and someone leaving with a small child under their arm.... Somethings not right, but maybe Im missing some facts.. The truth will come out one day.
