Good and evil don't exist because they represent the extremes and are absolute terms. Intermediates or everything in between, do exist. The closer to good the better in the eyes of public.

No. There is a "solid / thin" line between good and evil. Nothing can be good and evil at the same time. Some things can be USED for good or evil, but in the end, it either becomes good or evil depending on the cause.
Nothing can be good and evil. Nothing. There is no gray. There is only light and dark, good and bad, God and Satan.

That's a good question. I guess there could be.
Some people considerate death as a non-good-or-evil kind of figure. But I honestly can't think of something in between....

The question of the programmed ego's belief in duality, good/evil, is the psychological core of our relationship with physical reality.
Reality mirrors the contents of consciousness. Beliefs about oneself and the world are imprinted during early development in the forms of concrete (subconscious) beliefs that control perception, thoughts and feelings - the limited learned ego identity. They are RARELY accurate and when we overly identify with this essentially defensive thought system we are doomed, screwed - however you want to put it.
But, fortunately we are NOT our thoughts and feelings, but the OBSERVER of them. Discarding the ego's little notions of good and bad is required for returning to the authentic Self and remembering WHAT we love, are passionate or deadly serious about experiencing. This is the Truth that will set us free, because reality mirrors mind.
Enlightenment or the stabilizing of the essential nature allows reality to synchronize with purpose.

I believe that the only act that can lie squarely between good and evil is an act of survival by one that kills or harms another....... in more general terms, absolute necessities trigger such acts as can neither be classified as good nor as evil.

Yes I can think of two things cake and cookies. There not really good for and there not really bad for you. Some sins are like this for you don't ever sin then you don't really live at least for most of us. That is unless you're some sort of monk but for us laymen we have to dwell in that gray
