Maybe they've inspired them in some way. Maybe they've been following them around for so long it's almost as if they knew them. I personally would never mourn any celebrity.

I was thinking the same question! Ten years ago, when Princess Diana died, I felt extremely sad. Why? I never met the woman, let alone knew anything about her.

But we read about these celebrities (at our neighborhood grocery store.) Some are constantly in our faces on TV. We see them on the big screen and "think" we know everything about them (from the gossip columns.)

Somehow we feel a connection. So when a celebrity dies, we mourn as though an acquaintance has passed away.

I think sometimes people have been following up with their career so long and so closely that they almost feel like they know them. Some are even inspired by celebrities or identify with them in some way, so when the celebrity dies people feel like they've lost someone they knew. It's never nice when someone you like dies.

Personally I get sad if someone who has inspired me or really amazed me with their actions or work dies, but I don't exactly mourn them as if they were my family or something.

It all comes down to media hype, you can't be seen NOT mourning when everyone else around you is. What is totally "sad", are people who believe soaps are real and send sympathy cards!!

Because we somehow identify with them. Even if what we are identifying with is a bunch of BS made up by their publicists to make them appear more like us., ha ha.

Maybe they have been a fan of theirs for a number of years and followed their career. Its always sad when someone you like dies...showing emotion is not a crime.
