In all honesty I made the decision long ago that I would celebrate the CHRISTMAS holiday the way it was ORIGINALLY intended to be celebrated. ie

NO SANTA- AKA SATAN(DO THE ANAGRAM)

I make dinner and we give gifts but we do it all in celebration of JESUS CHRIST! We have a pretty tree and all the other stuff.

And if you want the other reason we don't do Santa. HERE IT IS .....
ALL PARENTS TELL THEIR CHILDREN NOT TO LIE RIGHT???

SO HOW DARE WE INTENTIONALLY LIE TO THEM AND TELL THEM THAT THERE IS A SANTA? OR A TOOTH FAIRY OR AN EASTER BUNNY OR ANY OF THAT OTHER STUFF THAT OUR PARENTS LIED TO YOU AND ME ABOUT?? THEN WHEN WE FOUND OUT ABOUT IT WE FELT BETRAYED AND HURT!! WHY DO IT? SO OUR CHILDREN CAN FEELTHE SAME WAY???

i agree with someone above who said calm the heck down! and take 10 deep breaths! good now that your calm have you ever told your child you can be anything you want to be? told him that a super hero was real? or your daughter that she is a princess or can be a princess or an angel? you just lied to her or him! does that mean you wanted to hurt them or crush there dreams? no you do this because there is something precious in childhood like there innocence that makes them believe in things and if you take that away then what will they have left? sure you can keep them away from santa and the commercialization and shelter them from everything but sooner or later they'll have to face it and probably wonder even more and question you when their friends say santa is real. i'm not saying you can't focus on Jesus during christmas but maybe you could put on an emphasis on Jesus and still let your child discover as the world hardens him or her with age that santa is not real but atleast they can look back at the great memories. buy your children the prayer card with santa kneeling to Jesus and tell them how he is a saint and he gives presents to kids to celebrate the present God gave to us, baby Jesus! to make them not greedy you could have them save up some money or do extra chores to save up money to buy a toy for some child or children without as much as other kids! so you can have your kids feel empty and different from there school mates throughout their childhood. but i know you know and i both know that even though they may feel a bit sad to learn santa isn't real the happiness he gave them was worth more then anything!

Alright Alright, i see your point and i agree, but also disagree. My parents told me about Santa and then left me to decide if it was him that brought all the presents, which is all the kids really care about. Santa is not the devil it's just a fairytale people like to tell. I know of no kids that were mad or sad or hurt from figuring out the truth. However I agree that Christmas these days is revolved more around Santa and presents then Jesus. The whole reason for Christmas is Jesus (i mean you can't spell Christmas without Christ.) I also have christmas in honor of Jesus, so no it isn't at all strange.

I love Christmas in every aspect, even Santa Claus.

And my parents never lied to me about him, it is just a story. I certainly don't remember ever feeling betrayed that it is isn't true. You let your children watch movies, right. There's no difference.

By the way, how you know how "Christmas is intended to be celebrated"? It's not in the bible...

I agree that Christmas has lost much of its meaning through commercialization. I agree that focus should be on Christ.

There is no better time than the Christmas season, for all of us to rededicate ourselves to the principles taught by Jesus the Christ. It is the time to love the Lord our God with all our heart—and our neighbors as ourselves.

Another thought from a friend of mine: Perhaps the true Christmas Spirit would burn a bit brighter if many Christians simply wouldn't believe in Santa Claus as if he were God, and wouldn't pray to God as if he were Santa Claus

Santa is just a legend derived from a true story about a christian. Did you know that Saint Nicholas was imprisoned for defending his faith in the name of Jesus Christ? You should read up on him, take a lesson from his legacy. I definately believe that we should never lie to our children....and telling our children that Santa was Satan is a huge lie. Of course Jesus should have much more emphasis, but Santa doesn't need to be completely ruled out. I don't believe in teaching my children to BELIEVE in fairytales, but I will allow them to know the story and play make-believe. Also, I don't allow them to discuss it with other children because it is a touchy subject and we don't want to interfere with their traditions. Check out this site for more info on the true story of Saint Nicholas...

Holy crap, calm down. I mean, didnt you get it? As a kid you were so happy not because of santa- because he BROUGHT YOU PRESENTS! So, a fat man breaking into your house never really crossed your mind. Maybe subconciously, but otherwise it was all about presents. Santa is a cute folk-lore, not true, but fun to talk about and have as the spirit of x-mas.

My parents never told us about Santa. It has always been about Jesus Birth. And that's what I'll tell my kids.
