A few months ago Opinion Polls were indicating a big swing from Labour to Conservatives if an Election was now held (whether Blair or Brown was Labour leader) . Indications then suggested Tories improved popularity was due the Tory faithful selecting David Cameron as new leader instead of David Davis. But remarkably all that seems to have changed in last few months with Polls now suggesting if an Election is now held the Tories will get less seats than in 2005. I'm not asking whether you personally like or dislike Cameron, nor whether you personally agree or disagree with his opinions and ideas. But why you think such an apparently high proportion of Brits (both Tories and others) originally thought of him as "wonderboy" now seem to have concluded he is "blunderboy".

It's a number of things. Loss of trust in Blair, the Iraq war lies coupled with being a new face with good PR gave him good ratings. Since then, GB's come to power, been seen as a doer with gravitas rather than a poser with no policies or substance and turned the polls on their head.

With Blair gone, and Brown setting out his own agenda people can see that Brown actually has an agenda.

With Blair gone Cameron has been found out that the Tory Party have no sound platform or indeed manifesto, with which to challenge Labour on, and had in reality being hiding behind the Iraq/ Afghani conflict issue.

This has led to Brown having a 10 point lead in the polls.

Analysts are suggesting that if this remains the gap, we are heading for a November election.

I would welcome it, as it would be a snap election no 18 month build up sapping the public interest, and possibly get people out to vote.

Its all down to that debacle over grammar schools and tax cuts ..The Conservatives shot themselves in the foot two or three times with their dilly dallying over whether grammar schools would be phased out new ones opened. Also new proposals for tax cuts which are likely only to be afforded by cutting expenditure elsewhere.

Also there is something called a the brown bounce which is affecting how people view leaders of the major political parties.. Brown is keeping very quiet (like always) about many of the problems that are being versed by pundits and voters.. Its likely that he will call a general election in October, knowing that his lead in the polls will crush the Conservatives and give himself a mandate to carry through many reforms and policies that will continue to change Britain.

He is not a Tory. People who wanted an alternative to New Labour hoped he would go back to Tory principles. We needed someone who would stand up and say Out of Europe. Bring back proper punishments. Mean something not make it up as he went along. I am a Tory Councillor and I am embarrassed to have to defend him.

One of the reasons is that the people of this country have very short memories. They seem to have forgotten that this man who is wowing them as new Prime Minister is the same man who screwed our pensions - against specific financial advice - and created mayhem and misery in his time as Chancellor of the exchequer.
This is why we can never be trusted with a referendum on important matters like hanging, because the result of the poll would depend what events had been in the news that month!!

Its not entirely his fault but he has a party of dinasours who refuse to move on from the Thatcherite era and will not modernise, also Cameron has wobbled from Iraq and has no clear policy on it other than criticise Labour and back the US.

He's been exposed as a leader with more sparkle than substance. Also it seems that Britain doesn't want another Blair clone.
