Baking soda sprinkled into the carpet works very well.
Some people wash the area with vinegar, and allow to set for a few hours, then sprinkle on a layer of baking soda, be generous...vacuum the next day after it's dry, repeat until smell is gone. Baking soda works wonders for pet urine smells too.

Not sure on bicarb but most cases of carpet smell is actually the pad that is under it where the liquid can't dry properly and it becomes musty, moldy, or odorous to what was spilled there. First thing is if your baby is sick take em to the doctor and put in new carpet. If money is an issue and if your carpet is a light shade ( a bleach able color ) rent a rug doctor and buy a lawn and garden pump sprayer. Fill the pump sprayer with hot water and spray the whole carpet with a med mist. Refill sprayer with with hot water,1 cap of liquid tide, and Clorox bleach. ( water and bleach should be 50/50)
Spray the whole carpet again and do it evenly and consistently. Scrub the stains lightly with brush. Wait 5-10 min and fill the rug doctor with only hot water. Run the rug doctor on the whole rug two times using only hot water. You will see so much dirty water you will be amazed. The bleach will help eliminate odor causing bacteria. It may smell when wet but it goes away and some of those recurring stains will also be gone for good.Give it 12 hrs before traffic and keep a fan on low. Hope you baby gets well.

Baking soda is so handy to have around the house especially if you have children/pets.. I use it on my carpets atleast once a week... I sprinkle it on my carpets before bed and vacuum it up in the morning. I also use baking soda along with my regular toothpaste to brush my teeth and I use it to exfoliate my face and in my shampoo to take out styling product residue.. It's handy in the cat box to get rid of odors and I put it in the laundry with my regular detergent to help take you stains and freshen the clothes... I put it in containers, with a holes punched in the lid in my fridge/freezer.. I buy it in 12 lb. bags from the wholesale store for about $5...
*for your situation I would use regular shaving cream NOT gel and work that into the spot on the carpet... rinse and blot with a light towel.... You may have to repeat step acouple times. If you have a shop vac it's a good time to use it and use it to vac. up any extra water left behind.. Wait for the carpet to dry and then sprinkle on the baking soda.. Let sit overnight and vacuum the next day... good luck and I hope your lil' one feels better...

Sprinkle it on carpet, if you have a mesh strainer use that to make it a fine dust, and let set for several hours, like over night, and just vacuum up. It also works on matresses that have ordours on them. (Make sure the area is dry or the stuff will cake on.) You can also put it in the garbage disposal to freshen it up. When I take the box out of the frig to replace it, I dump it down the kitchen sink with hot water to deoderize the drain. You can put about a 1/2 cup in a small bowl and leave on your counter to absorb kitchen odors. There are many cleaning options for it. (Make a thick paste with water to pull the poison out of a bee sting or any insect bite that itches or stings.)

Poor baby! I hope he feels better fast!
What you'll want to do is sprinkle the area well with baking soda and let it sit for a long time before you get it up.
Good luck!

When the fluid is all gone, sprinkle the bi-carb thickly over the spot, brush in vigorously with as laundry brush, wait for it to dry, then vacuum out. It might need doing again later.
You'll keep your beady eyes on the kid more closely from now on, won't you!

Baking Soda works great to remove odors.
You can use baby powder too and then vacume it up.
The powder absorbs it.
