Compared to the rest of the answers, I am not out of the ball park.
If you want power-power, then be a judge or lawyer. They have power. Look how many people went to jail because of their jurisdiction. (So I recommend spending a little more on the lawyer.)
If you want true-power, then get to the truth. Find the truth. Find TRUTH in itself. Better yet, find God. He will give you power, once you are responsible and strong enough.
My answer is in the ball park here. Its still your choice. Be a lawyer, or get to God. One is free...the other will take some years. One has peace without paperwork. The other will get you peace, once you finish the paperwork.
Hey, can't a guy insert some humor once in a while?

Power is the ability to influence things at your own will.
'True Power' or 'Absolute Power' is the ability to completely change other things absolutely at will.
To obtain true power over an inanimate object, you simply must be stronger than it.
To obtain power over an animal, you must show that disobedience is pain, until it learns to fall in line.
To obtain power over other people, Absolute power, you need to work very hard. They must trust you, and feel that they need you, and they must not have the will to argue and resist you. That is true power.
Case in point: Stalin had true power. His established cult of personality meant that everyone obeyed him, believed him, changed things on his beck and call. The moral question though, is do you WANT absolute power -what could you possibly do with it, that would stop you from being Stalin?

Power over yourself first. Over your emotions and reactions, and your actions. When making decisions you should always do so from a position of power, it prevents you from merely reacting to what others want you to do. To obtain power, you must not allow others to control you or the situation (especially your situation). You do this by making careful and conscious descisions about your path in life-your behavior, your actions, your reactions to others actions. Spend money wisely, make descions on how you can go into business for yourself, do not let others harm you or take advantage of you. Use self-control. So many other ways as well, but self-control is the starting ground!!

To obtain true power is to accumulate the best knowledge on earth. Knowledge is the most powerful tool of man. In knowledge you could contribute many things especially in the field of science just like Albert Einstein. He is a man of true power in science. He had developed relativity. His biggest contributions is the true power he shared to mankind.

Power is the ability to touch other persons' lives. Power is the courage to express what you think and how you feel without the fear of being punished for it. Power is the wisdom to understand other people. Power is the capacity to love. And power can be obtained by being oneself and by taking responsibility for one's actions.

knowledge is power.
There are many ways to obtain this power. It can be found in a book,,,it can be found in a conversastion with a friend, it can be found sitting in silence in nature and listening to what is there.
With good knowledge one can achieve anything.
the question is... .....are you able to live with the consciquences of the choices made in achieveing your "Power". If you can answer yes to that question....and have not hurt others along the journey one indeed has some "balanced "power.
Peace and Love to all

In my view, true power lies in the ability to admit one's own follies and overlook others'..... in the attitude to forgo rewards for own good deeds and pardon others' sins...... true power is what others give us rather than what we can take from them......... truth implies stability and longevity and hence TRUE power ought to be unshakable and lasting..... and such power can only be had when willingly given by others and gracefully worn by us. Earning goodwill of the people and maintaining it meticulously is the way one can acquire true power.

By giving it up. That doesn't mean surrendering to problems and people. It means reconciling yourself with them through inner peace. And peace is the ultimate power.
