we are here for God's sake

Because a loving God created us to be His companions.

Unfortunately, sin entered the picture & this planet got detoured from its original plan. However, God did not give up on us. He came to show us how to live and then offered Himself to receive the punishment for our disobedience so we may receive His righteousness. Now we can stand in our rightful place again - friend of God. One day soon evil will be destroyed and the earth made new so it'll all be like it was intended to be.

I'd say there are (at least) two possible answers to your question:

1. We're here for no reason whatsoever. The universe and everything in it is a "cosmic accident", with no creating "Higher Power", no purpose and no meaning.

2. We're here to fulfill our parts in the Creator's "Divine Plan", to use our free will and make choices to do right or wrong, to understand our connection and relationship with every other living being, past, present and future, and to recognize that we are a part of the web of creation.

Personally, I favor the second view. My life experience has shown me that's there's a balance in the universe, that when we hurt someone else, we hurt ourselves and when we help another, we're helped as well. This connectedness seems to me to imply that there is meaning to life and our presence here has purpose.
