Speed of Sound not really.
Probably Fix You by Coldplay is sad..

Oh and I'd probably go with Imagine by John Lennon
and Everybody Hurts by REM.

Hi!
On your list REM definitely ! Yesterday is classically sad, Fix You is a great Coldplay choice and on my list of all time tortured tunes has to be Burn by Ray LaMontange. Serious pain. Hurt by Trent Reznor (Didn't Johnny Cash cover that too? I thinks so..) anyway, tragic as well.

I think that they are all very sad songs. It depends what kind of sad mood you are in. The metallica songs are truly heartbreaking, i mean these are tough n rough guys breaking down, that shows a lot of emotion so I think I would pick The Unforgiven...i love that song.

Of the songs you've listed, I'd have to say "Everybody Hurts" by REM. It's not MY choice for saddest song ever, but it's a sad, sad song none-the-less.

The Scientist by Coldplay. The first time I heard that song it brought tears to my eyes. Whenever I hear it now I stop what I am doing and just appreciate it for what it's worth. I don't think that the music video does it justice though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3Kd7IGPyeg -music video

From your list, "Yesterday." But I'd pick "Tears In Heaven" by Eric Clapton, written after the tragic death of his young son. Next, Elton John's "Candle In the Wind," about the tragic life & death of Marilyn Monroe, later reworked for Princess Di's funeral.
