Let x = Brandon's savings, $605.00 - x = Sam's savings.

Equation:
1/3($605 - x) = 2/5x
$605/3 - 1/3x = 2/5x
$605/3 = 2/5x + 1/3x
$605/3 = 6/15x + 5/15x
$605/3 = 11/15x
($605/3) / (11/15) = x
$605/3 * 15/11 = x
x = $275.00

Answer: Brandon's savings is $275.00

If Brandon's savings is $275.00 then Sam's savings is $605.00 - $275.00 or $330.00

Proof (substitute the variables in the equation):
1/3($330.00) = 2/5($275.00)
$110.00 = $$110.00

Poor Narnia, you're yet to come to grips with elementary algebra, so here's the answer for you:
Let Sam's saving be S dollars, while that of Brandon be B
From your data, 1/3 * S = 2/5 * B .............1)
S + B = 605 .............2)
Simplify equation 1) by multiplying each side by 15 to get the form 5 *S = 6 * B or S = 6/5 * B .....3)
Substitute eqn 3) in eqn 2) to get
6/5 * B + B = 605 or B = 275 dollars
S = 330 dollars

1/3 s = 2/5 b, so s = 6/5b
b + 6/5 b = 605, and 11/5 b = 605, and b = 275.

1/3x + 2/5x = 605

Multiply both sides of the equation by 15

15(1/3x) + 15(2/5x) = 15(605)

5x + 6x = 9075

Collect like terms

11x = 9075

Divide both sides of the equation by 11

11x / 11 = 9075 / 11

x = 9075 / 11

x = 825

Insert the x value into the equation

- - - - - - -

1/3x + 2/5x = 605

1/3(825) + 2/5(825) = 6-5

825/3 + 1650/5 = 605

275 + 330 = 605

605 = 605

Bradon has $ 330.00

1/3S=2/5B
S+B=605
s=6/5B
6/5B+B=605
11/5B=605
B=5*605/11=275
S=605-275=330
