It's sad isn't it. Did you hear about it on the news?

It was very very late on tonights news. I don't live in the USA by the way.

But the bridge collapse in the USA was first thing on the news, 6 people died.

Why do we hear all the sob stories from the USA, but the rest of the world hardly even makes the news. It's so terrible if it happens in the USA, we are all made to feel so sorry and terrible that this happened. Anywhere else, it's hardly significant!

Does anyone else feel this?

Me too Charlie. I try very hard not to waste any food. At work it's so frustrating. We throw out so much food. I think we spend too much money on unimportant things, like war.

If you need to confirm that the media in the States focuses mainly upon them-self, think back to the tsunami on Dec.26, 2004.At least 155,000 people died, the devastation was horrific and it didn't take long for the media frenzy to die down. However when hurricane Katrina occured the loss of life ( 1,850 deaths) was not nearly as bad as it could have been ( which was a blessing) and the property loss was phenomenal. It seemed like the media bled this tragedy dry and saw it from every angle possible. To me, it appeared that the emotional and financial devastation of the tsunami were quickly forgotten. In both cases their was loss of "life as they knew it" but one tragedy seemed to be "more newsworthy".

thinking they're nevertheless investigating this tragedy and characteristic no longer desperate what the genuinely reason became i think of anyone is leaping to conclusions offering explanation for the cave in. As I even have reported until now regardless of if there became extra funds there how are you able to assert it could have went to restoration this bridge. EDIT: The gasoline tax in MN became no longer shrink. there became a proposed gasoline tax enhance that became vetoed by utilising the Governor yet no cuts have been made. regardless of in the event that they could have exceeded the upward thrust interior the gasoline tax there is no longer something to assert this bridge could have been a precedence - that they had the comments and opt to do floor maintenance and not the rest.

30 000 children under 5 died yesterday-and will dye today- most of them from hunger and malnutrition!
This happens mainly in underdeveloped countries.
Our governments give help to these countries governments mainly in form of arms .
Here in the EU massive amounts of food are destroyed every day...
Though-I feel sorry for the friends and families of the bridge.disaster victims.

It is a new bridge.

"The collapse was likely to fuel already deep public concerns about the quality of construction in a country undergoing breakneck economic development, and where corruption among contractors and officials is common."

I feel the same way about our local news and the likes of CNN + ABC (US), but you get good coverage from the BBC and CCTV. (China Central TV)
