This is one of those things thats been bugging me.

Why, when Kate, Gerry and the rest of the holiday party are all medical people and would be fully aware of the importance of preserving the crime scene did they allow anyone to enter the apartment after they realised Maddie had gone missing?

appollogies if this question has been asked already but i'm new to this...
I dont want this question used for a pro or anti McCann slanging match please, i genuinly want to know if i'm missing a bit of info here.

I guess because no matter what your training or profession, when you discover something as frightening as your child missing you don't think straight and you don't automatically think of your apartment as a crime scene- they had to check the place thoroughly in case Maddie was inside somewhere- and as the police took so long to respond to their call, there was no one there to prevent it- it seems also that the Portuguese police don't understand this simple piece of investigatory technique either, not being able to accurately collect evidence from the scene.

I only know that from films. I also know from a "film" that the police officers are the most likely suspects to destroy a crime scene " sorry i can't remember the name of the film!" oh i remember now- Bones

The fact they are doctors does not make them police detectives, and also when your child disappears, preserving the crime scene is not the first thing that comes to a mother's mind!

There are so many things that don't add up in this case. I just hope the police have already asked these kind of questions. There are only 2 reasons why 20 people would have been allowed to enter that apartment. One...... utter chaos at the time, or two, purposely destroying evidence.

Either it is a crime scene or it isn't. If it isn't a crime scene, i.e. an abduction, there is no evidence to destroy. So why would they bother getting 20 people to traipse throught the apartment. Have they ever said any evidence of an abductor might have been destroyed in the panic. If they have please let's see the link.

As a medical person myself, I only know about the importance of preserving a crime scene from watching CSI on tv. Also, if it was my child that had been abducted, I would be in too much of a state of shock to insist that no one enters the appartment.

I'm also have a medical background and agree I'm not sure I'd think enough to keep the room clear of other people...however I would also not have waited almost 2 hours to call the Police and I can't imagine phoning Britain first..........That has nothing to do with a medical knowledge its more to do with panic over getting my child back.....and my first thought would be call the POLICE.............

The instinctive reaction would be for everyone to help in a search. You wouldn't think this is a crime scene unless you discovered a body or something similar.

It adds to the suspicion that they had something to do with it as they let 20 approx people trapse through the room destrying evidence...however, if I was panicking about a missing child, forenzics wouldn't be the prioritised matter in my mind. I doubt I would even think about it
