If we're talking chain lube that's got onto the wheel, then the cheapest way to shift it quickly is WD40 / GT85 / whatever cheap light oil spray you can get locally. Wonder Wheels and Autoglym are good, but not better enough to justify the cost.

After cleaning the wheels thoroughly, spray them with any furniture polish (Pledge?), they'll look great and they'll be much easier to clean next time.

I use Extreme NanoTech wheel cleaner from Halfords. It comes in a bright lime green bottle. Brings your alloys up like brand new.

Wonder wheels. Get it in Halfords or similar car shop. Comes with a little brush to apply it with, getting into all the nooks and crannies. Leave for a few mins then rinse off with water. They will come up a treat.

Use very fine wire-wool with metal polish. You wont have to rub too hard and the rust will come off. Also this is the easiest way to do spokes. (although it will get messy -HINT:Latex Gloves) When finished, wipe off with clean dry cloth and finish with a buff - Microfibre Cloth best.

S100 Total Cycle Cleaner, as recommended by Harley-Davidson and Ducati - spray on, wipe over and rinse off. Quick, simple and effective (and no damaging acids, alkali's or salts, unlike some of the previous suggestions...).

I've found that it's easier to wipe off dry then wash them after you get the bulk off with a rag. If they're wet, the water actually makes it harder to get a the greasy dirt off, even if you have a good soap.
