How do I find out what ISP is hosting a certain website?

Generally you would do a domain lookup and see what kind of information you can get on the domain. A lot of times websites are hosted with the same company that has sold them the domain. Generally you would look at the DNS servers provided for the domain, but the ISP information may be provided elsewhere. If this fails, do a DNS lookup for the domain, then do a WHOIS search for the IP address. The WHOIS search will give you the company who owns the IP address. Sometimes doing a reverse DNS will provide a separate address for the server the website is hosted on. This address will probably have the name of the company who runs the server in the URL. However, if it's obscure, do the same sort of lookup on that domain.

Hi Man

ISP stands for Internet service provider and has nothing to do with the hosting company.

But to check who is hosting a website you can simple type "whois" in any search bar.

If you are searching for another extention like .co.za or something that is not commen, just type something like "whois .co.za" in the search URL.

Enter a site, type the URL of the website and wait for it to load...Your done.....

If you want to check the IP address.
Go to start, run, type in cmd.

You will know have the comand promt window open, type in "ping www.whateverdomain.com" (please don't type the " ")

Kind Regards.

Use your search engine and type in whois or use this link http://www.whois-search.com/
Some are better than others so using the search whois you may get better details depending on the domain extension.

Type in the name or IP and you should get a return on a lot of details. Some Companies allow a hidden one at extra cost (godaddy.com for example)

You can check on WHOIS otherwise you can download software that tracks IPs such as TRACEROUTE there are other better ones. Search on Google.

Most large sites provide their own access (it would be too difficult for me to explain how), but for smaller sites, a combination of:

http://news.netcraft.com/

and

http://www.whois.net/

will provide you with a lot of information.

Try entering the domain name (e.g. "cnn.com") into the page below. Good luck!
