sometimes when i sart my car and take off. i have to drive slow for my ABS light to kick on. dont take long for them to do so.. sometimes my breaks work good, then sometimes they go all the way to the floor and i have to keep pushing them to get them harder.. i dont know what the problem is. it seems like it has to do with my ABS. Thanks

The ABS light should only come on if there is a malfunction (or during the bulb test as you start it up).

You really should see a mechanic about it, try to avoid driving your car very far though.

If you're ABS light is coming on it would mean that you can drive just fine but that the anti-lock feature won't work which will mean longer stopping distances and that you may have to ease off on the breaks to steer out of danger (whereas with the wheels not locking up you can stop sooner and also keep steering under full breaks).

If the light for you handbreak is coming on without your handbreak being on then that means that you're breaks really are failing and you should be getting it towed. If you have to push your break pedal all the way to the floor I'd say there's something wrong with your break system.

But I should ask if you are pushing the pedal to the floor after coming downhill while using your breaks to keep the speed constant?

you don't want your abs lights to kick on.. the dash lights are to let you know something is wrong. If it is coming on chances are your abs is not working. When your pedal hits the floor there is air in the line. brakes run off a hydraulics system and when there is air in the line it is not able to get the compression required to apply brake. Most cars take dot 3, however check for the requirements, this should be under your hood.

How fast do you take off.

The ABS braking system is designed to allow you to completely press on the brake without skidding or lose control. My car does the same thing because the disadvantage of the ABS is that it increases the breaking distance so the wheels wont lock. If you are trying to make a sudden stop while going above the 40 miles per hour, most often its gonna take longer to slow down. I was doing 60 on a street and had to brake suddenly but ended up way over the stop line because the ABS wont allow me to completely stop faster.
