Self = Metaphor.
It's the analog "I"... The mental construct is the creation of your own lexicon. The more sophisticated and extensive is your vocabulary, then consequently you will have a more extensive and complex sense of self.

I had this discussion in my head sometime ago. I read a book about 6 months back titled "Life After Death, The Burden of Proof" (Deepak Chopra) and expected a quaint little story about heaven and angels, but instead found myself questioning the very basis of self as I understood it. The book points out that self (or, I Am) is an egocentric statement, assuming that we are what we consider ourselves to be. I had this argument with a friend (more of a debate) when we both found our lives crumbling apart from the fabric we thought was steadfast.
I said to her, " Yesterday you were a waitress and a single mother. Today your daughter is moving across the country to live with her father and you quit your job. Who are you? If we want to go further, do you remember being born? No one I know does, so what we assume is "our story" (I was born on this date, in this place, and given this name) is really just our acceptance of someone else's story of You Are, which gives us our "I Am".
It's presumptuous for us to assume that we really have a self that we can comprehend or define. The minute we do, we find that the very story changes before we realize it's happening.
I had read "The Secret" and had spent months in a cocky state of mind feeling that I could control the outcome of my life, by simply thinking and wanting it to happen. What I was given was a healthy does of humble pie, and I realized that not only can I not define myself by what I think I am, what I think I need, and where I think I'm going, but I am simply a story unfolding and the Universe holds the pen.
I'm not a victim to my circumstances, but merely a front seat viewer learning about the "self" that I believe I have, until the time comes for "my" story to end.

Yes. Who asks?You are the life of the body.You existed before you had this body and you will exist after it is gone.
Life is immortal.lead your mind into your heart and find unity with God in unconditional love.
"God dwells within you as you"
As the colors of the rainbow are contained within sunlight,so to are all things contained within the light of Gods love. LITERALLY.
